When I save as image.pse to Jpeg I can save as image.001 to .003 but image.004 onwards just show blank thumbnails, I've had this problem since loading PSE18 from when it first came out. There's not a problem saving as image.0001, just wondering if this is one of the changes made from start of PSE 18.

Is that the filename you are saving as "image.001, image.002, etc." If so, I think the "." is your problem. Can you see the images in any other program ? Change that dot to a _ or - or eliminate it altogether and see if it works.

I just used 'image' as sample name, I seem to remember way back when I was searching about this someone else had same issue with PSE 18 with "."001 etc, but because I started using .0001 etc I nether done any more about it until now I thought I'd just ask the question.

I did a quick troubleshooting but I can't replicate the problem you describe. I saved my images as test.001.jpg through test.005.jpg. The thumbnails were displayed properly. Something else is going on; I just don't know what. We may need more information in order to get the troubleshooting going in the right direction. Would you please give us more details concerning your workflow? Thanks in advance!

A screenshot of the blank thumbnail would be helpful; it may lead us to the culprit. As to information on your wokflow, . . . - Operating system. - Do you use the Organizer? - Any problems opening the files with a blank thumbnail in PSE 2018? Error messages? Warnings? - Do you have an earlier version of PSE on your computer? If so, have you used it to open these problem files?

Thanks for the detailed information! Very helpful. I'm going to focus on . . . Tried to download the files and got error massage image.005 - Invalid or unsupported file format. images.004 - Invalid or unsupported file format. I'm going to take a wild shot in the dark. Bear with me! 1. In Windows Explorer, right-click on the file thumbnail and select Open with Paint. 2. Save the file in the JPEG picture format. 3. To differentiate it from the problem file, change the name. Ex: image.005-paint, images.004-paint 4. Open these files in PSE. If PSE refuses to open them and the error message pops up, then, another variable needs to be considered. Back to the drawing-board!

I still believe that the machine is seeing those "." as a file format, like ".jpeg" or ".exe"
Rename some of the problem files without using the dot/period and see if you don't regain use of them.

BuckSkin, That was also my first thought. However, this was my experience . . . I also have PSE 2018. I did a quick troubleshooting but I can't replicate the problem you describe. I saved my images as test.001.jpg through test.005.jpg. The thumbnails were displayed properly.

If you click on rename -What is the actual name of that file? does it show jpg at the end? In all of my years working with computers, in my humble option, It is a very bad idea to use a . in the file name.

In all of my years working with computers, in my humble option, It is a very bad idea to use a . in the file name. Frank, This has also been my opinion. I remember having problems with this kind of file names when using PSE 4 and PSE 7 (back on the EV forum). That's why I was surprised to get these results when using PSE 2018. Go figure!
I also have PSE 2018. I did a quick troubleshooting but I can't replicate the problem you describe. I saved my images as test.001.jpg through test.005.jpg. The thumbnails were displayed properly.
