I am certain I used the organizer successfully, but now it it loads, then when I click on anything I see the blue wheel for a bit and then it closes. I can not get any bit of the organizer to work.
I am thinking the only thing to do is try reinstalling, but wanted to ask if there is a less drastic step to try first.

Before reinstalling, try to launch the organizer while keeping the shift key pressed until this brings a menu letting choose useful options: - Opening a new, empty catalog (button 'New')
- or another existing catalog - or to repair the current catalog (highlight it and button 'Repair'
If the catalog works on a new or different catalog, it's a problem with the catalog, not with the organizer and reinstalling is not the solution. The 'repair' may help.

Thanks michelb , I was unaware of that hidden feature. I was able to create a new catalog, but all the tags are gone. Oh well. Is there a way to open the old catalog? If so, how do I find it?

If the name of the old catalog does not appear in the dialog following the shift + open command in the bottom catalog list, it can be either in the standard location or in 'custom' location. The standard location can be found when you are in the new empty catalog (or from any working catalog). You go to Help >> System Info and the path is indicated. Other catalogs should be on the same folder level as the open catalog in the 'ProgramData' section. Be sure to allow the Explorer to show 'hidden' files. If the catalog is in custom location (you moved it manually or restored it from a backup), then you'll have to do a Windows search for the database file in the catalog folder. For instance, for PSE2021 (version 19) search for 'catalog.pse19db'. You'll find all instances of catalogs in the PSE2021 format. You'll be able to find the right one by the name of its folder, the size or date of the folder.

Thanks michelb, I'm sure that will allow me to locate it.

... I used Michelb's suggestion and a similar one found elsewhere to launch my Organizer program, which had disappeared after last week's Microsoft update on 9 March 2021. Apparently Microsoft decided that Organizer was a risky program because it likes to have an internet connection. ... Trying to create a new Organizer catalog did not work. By launching Organizer directly from its .exe file in the Programs directory, I got back my Organizer in perfect condition with all my ~60,000 image files intact. The revived program icon sits as usual on my Desktop and elsewhere and is behaving normally. It took just a few minutes to follow Michelb's idea and it saved me days of trying to rebuild a new catalog of my images!
