1. Participants in the challenge are asked to provide a screenshot of their edits within the RAW converter of their choice along with the reasons for their edits. 2. Following their initial edits members may use whatever “tools" they wish to create an image that portrays their artistic vision for the image as long as the character of the original image is not lost. 3. Including information on plug-ins, actions, external editors, textures, sky replacements etc that were used will only help to inform members of some of the creative options that are available to today’s photographer. 4. Including layer stacks may be something to consider when presenting a final edit. You have two weeks to participate in this challenge. It ends on Thursday Jan. 9, 2021.. At the end of the challenge the image creator will select their three favorite edits. Comments are restricted to complimenting another member's edit. This image was taken in Oregon at sunset. The photographer took many images and recently came upon some that had never been edited. The thought was that this would work well for the RAW challenge and he/she would be interested to see how others might edit and crop this image. This is the image we will be working on: You can download the image using this link.

Starting this challenge with a very vibrant edit, Frank! Like the toning of your B/W version as well.

I opened this file in Affinity Photo and applied the Camera Raw settings as can be seen below... Thereafter I used a Midnight Blue Texture by Erica Paree as an overlay and applied an overlay blend mode at full opacity giving this finished result. I forgot to straighten the image - apologies.

Looks like that could work as a book cover, Lillias!

This was certainly a fun one to work on as it has all kinds of possibilities as I realised once I started tweaking it. Decided to concentrate on the rocks as the focal point so straightened and cropped to concentrate on them. Then the basic adjustments I used in Lightroom were: Note the use of the Modern 7 profile at 75% - I found with this image there were some very big differences between the profiles and it was hard to pick one but I tended to go with the ones that took out some of the blue (sorry Lillias!) - I also tweaked the white balance to the warmer side (more less blue!) For other adjustments I used an adjustment brush on the rocks to bring out the details and a grad filter from top to middle and from bottom to middle to reduce exposure on sky and foreground. Finished up with a vignette. Tony

Looking at the rocks in the image in the first post, I am surprised at the amount of detail you were able to bring out in the rocks, Tony. Your note about the profile you used was a nice addition to your explanation. I hope to work on this image in the next day or so and agree that it appears to offer many possibilities for editing. Will be fun to see what other members come up with.

So I gave this a try. I wanted to bring out the white foam on the incoming waves and the splash by the biggest stack. After RAW I used the skylight filter and a touch of dynamic contrast in NIK CE 4. At the very end I screened the image and then using a black mask tried to bring out the white in the water which was my goal for this try.

Looks good to me Helen. I hope to have another go at this in a few days. Got to get the imagination going first.

Had another go - this time a black and white version. Went in a little closer to the rocks, used the B&W08 profile at 70% and then worked on the rocks with with the adjustment brush. Finished off in ON1 to add some dynamic contrast, a vignette and border. Tony

Interesting portrait orientation, Frank. I also like the idea that you confined your editing to RAW and a LUT.
I was thinking about seeing what I could achieve just by using Camera RAW.

Nice moody edit, Karen. I want to try limiting myself to Camera Raw as well.
