Just because you start with a template, doesn't mean you have to create a layout just like it.
I turned this template on it's side because the photos were portrait shaped - and then I ran with it.
After rotating, I used it pretty much as designed.
I did use the doodads on the template - even though they are usually just a doodad placement idea - where you replace the item with one of your own. In this case, I wanted the colors, so I left them on the page - changing a few colors as I deemed necessary. These things are called embellishments, but I like to think of them as 'doodads'.
Maybe she needs just a few decorating lessons...
