And a portrait which I must have been thinking close to square when I took it. Now to get outside with the camera for some current shots - I can set my Fuji to shoot square format so might try that if it warms up a bit and stops snowing!

Last one for a while. Unlikely to go out to take photos today...snowing, blowing and cold. Pavan Park, January 2, 2021.

It's so nice to come home and find the new images and articles shared. I think they all work and are strong submissions for this thread. I went out to shoot for this challenge and can't say that I'm really happy with any of the images that I took. I will add a couple after dinner.

I especially like your road image, Tony. I am hoping to capture similar. Love how relaxed the woman in the portrait looks. Your snowy is so perfectly placed on that fence, Clive. A really fine image. Here are three from my outing today.....not quite what I had hoped for....

Thanks Helen. Like your photos. Is the light stuff (especially in the first photo) sand or snow? Seriously. Clive

Thanks, Clive.....it was interesting.....a decent amount of snow on the west side of the park but none on the beach. The first image is sand but if you look closely there is a little patch of snow to the left of the fence. Below is one of my rejects....but you can see the snow

Thanks Helen. Oooow, that abandoned (?) house is interesting. That is quite a bit of snow for you.

... mrkrnbrd ... that works as well. I did a quick screen snip and think you might be able to crop from upper right down toward the giraffes' shoulders. ... Mark, to be honest, on first look I wasn't sure if the crop worked. However, coming back to it what I do think works, is how the square emphasizes the diagonal formed by the long necks of the giraffes as they eat the leaves. I agree it is the diagonal that works well with this image - thanks Helen and Clive

I like your cropped version, Mark! That is quite a bit of snow for you. We had about 6 inches of snow along the coast, but inland they had a foot or more. Possibly more this weekend

Nice one, Pete, I especially like how the angle of the bike adds depth to the image.

Took a brief trip outside with the camera today (at -20°F) with it set to shoot a square format. Interesting as it certainly changes the way you look at a scene. I shoot raw so in fact the camera captures all the pixels but you only see the square image in the viewfinder and surprisingly Lightroom did the same and hid the extra pixels (although they were there if you wanted to adjust the square). This was not the day to be sitting enjoying a view of the frozen river but for a square landscape it seems to work. Tony

Ohhhhh......that worked beautifully. I read that some cameras presented that overlay. I am finding it hard to visualize while shooting. I especially liked some of the squares in the links that I added where the subject was small in the frame.....which was what I was trying for in the third one above. But I wasn't successful.
