RAW Challenge Submitting an image for this challenge the photographer was interested to see how it might inspire creativity. 1. Participants in the challenge are asked to provide a screenshot of their edits within the RAW converter of their choice along with the reasons for their edits. 2. Following their initial edits members may use whatever “tools" they wish to create an image that portrays their artistic vision for the image as long as the character of the original image is not lost. 3. Including information on plug-ins, actions, external editors, textures, sky replacements etc that were used will only help to inform members of some of the creative options that are available to today’s photographer. 4. Including layer stacks may be something to consider when presenting a final edit. 5. You may not add elements to this image.....this would result in creating a composite which is beyond the scope of this challenge. You have until Thursday May 27th to submit your edits. At the end of the challenge the image creator will select his/her three favorite edits. Comments are restricted to complimenting another member's edit. The RAW file can be downloaded here. You do not need a dropbox account to download. Look for the download top right. This is a screenshot of the image we will be working on:

Thanks for this Helen. Used Topaz DeNoise AI for noise removal.

Always interesting to see what can be done with Affinity, Lillias. I notice you have brought out more contrast in the image.
Frank, thanks for sharing your B/W version from Luminar.....it retains the misty quality of the original.

Used only ON1 Photo Raw for basic edits, no effects were applied. It seems the main attractions are the mist and the windows and door of this old house. A close crop emphasizes the windows and doors and makes the viewer feel like they are walking up to this place for a visit. I can imagine someone peering through the windows. i.ibb.co/Kb4GstG/house.jpgi.ibb.co/HN7WkFN/houe-on1.jpg

Thanks for sharing the reason behind your editing choices, Karen. If I was there with my camera, I might be the one peering through the windows!

When I first saw this image, I thought it might be a good candidate for a nighttime edit. My Camera RAW adjustments were made with that in mind. So starting with this base, I hope I can eventually create a night image. I started with a Jared Platt Cool 2 profile and adjusted the white balance as shown:

Tried to make good on my day-to-night plan. Certainly think it would work well for this kind of edit but not especially pleased with my results. Used a day to night LUT, NIK CE 4 filters and a star brush.

Thank you for the challenge Helen. I have enjoyed looking through the edits. Here is my take. While editing, I was guided by what attracted me to the image which was the mist and the details on the front wall of the large house. 1-Into Adobe ACR exposure 2.4, Blacks -32. Everything else at the default value to keep the mist at his point. 2- Topaz denoise 3- Applied Fractalius G4 Amber2 preset filter to increase line contrast and set layer transparency to 12% 4- Applied Redfield Elementary "Dark" preset filter and transparency set to 31% (Similar to Topaz clean) 5- Applied various brightness and contrast layers to make the front of the large house stand out and apply a vignette. 6- Used the channel mixer with the built in B&W green filter and also a gradient map above it to convert to B&W. 7- Used a Hue/Saturation layer to apply a slight Sepia tint. (Colorise, Hue 34, Saturation 25, adjust transparency to taste) 8- Applied the Orton effect to create a dreamy effect. 9- Applied a stock PS Elements frame 10- Touched up with a bit of dodging and burning using brightness/Contrast layers. The final image is best viewed at full size. Kind regards Chris

Love your vision for this image, Chris. It's a beautiful edit and addresses the photographer's desire for creativity. Thanks also for the detailed description of the steps you took to reach the finished look. The frame works perfectly and I agree that it is best viewed full size.

Took into Camera Raw in PSE 2020 altered settings as shown below. Placed a texture from Magnolia Texture LaBella Collection on top and used the Vivid Light blend mode. Applied a frame by Jodi.

Looks like the sun is breaking through the mist, Lillias. Lovely edit and well-chosen frame.
