A neighborhood memorial to commemorate a tragedy at the intersection. Bill, a poignant yet beautiful memorial. This image elicits an emotional response from the viewers.

Standing over 90' the Monmouth Battle Monument commemorates the Battle of Monmouth which was the longest continuous battle of the Revolutionary War. Along the base of the monument are five scenes from the battle sculpted by artist James Edward Kelly. The cornerstone was laid in 1878, on the 100th anniversary of the battle. The monument was completed in 1884. Helen, very nice! Going from capturing the monument as a whole to capturing some of its details. You could make a collage with the images.

The Monument was erected in 1677 to commemorate the Great Fire of London which started in a baker's shop in nearby Pudding Lane. The Monument gives its name to the street in which it stands and also to the adjacent Underground Station. Incidentally, it is possible to climb the 311 steps to the top of the column, from where there are magnificent views over London. No lift, but those who do climb get a certificate to prove how fit they are. Sadly, closed at the moment "due to Covid". Brenda Brenda, very interesting history behind this monument. Your three shots put it all into perspective. My favorite is the 1st shot -- the monument framed by those buildings.

Today we saw two small monuments in Petts Wood on the southern edge of London. The first commemorates William Willett, who first introduced British Summer Time or Daylight Saving in the UK in 1925. The second small monument says thank you to the two people who bought the woodland in 1927 and gave it to people to walk in and enjoy. Matthew Matthew, very clever capture! The 1st shot introduces us to the monument history; the 2nd one "reveals" the sundial. The second monument may be small but it’s big in its thank-you message. I love it!

Had to wait until today to get the shot I wanted for this theme. The town VFW Memorial Day Remembrance service at the cemetery. This is the Honor Guard firing a salute after the prayer for the fallen, with the Monument to the local residents who served and died in the background.

Rick, I really like your take on this theme -- the Monument as the background and the Honor Guard drawing our eyes to it. Very effective composition!
