Black and white seemed to be the theme to me this week, as all my picks are B&W: Summer Love by deany - A very pretty close-up with either some really good in-camera effects or a nice treatment to make the rose blend into the background. Sunbeams over the Rockies. June 25, 2021 by pontiac1940 - I really like the focus on the sunbeams, with a landscape for which very little detail is present. The landscape looks cold and barren, with gently rolling hills in front of a prominent mountain range - but it is? You can't tell and that is what makes this stand out to me. My IOW Pick: Salsify Close-Up by dandc - I was intrigued by the name and the photo, and it made me want to expand it and look at it in more detail. I think an indicator of a good photo is that it wants to make you explore it. (and for anyone who, like me, didn't know what Salsify is: According to the Old Farmer's Almanac: "Tragopogon porrifolius is a long, thin root vegetable that looks similar to a medium or large carrot or parsnip. Black salsify is immediately recognizable by its dark, nearly black, smooth skin while white salsify has brown or tan skin and is more “hairy.” Both varieties have white flesh that looks similar to a turnip.") Thank you for judging this week! Congratulations to Dean and Clive for being among your picks this week - I'm honored to have my shot picked as your IOW, especially with all the wonderful shots submitted. The portion of this plant visible to me was the LARGE eye-catching dandelion-like puff ball . . thankfully this shot came out clear enough that I was able to process it they way I hoped I could when I took it.
