Continuing the nostalgia phase of my scrapping, here is another look back I really enjoyed looking over photos from the archives. Brought back a lot of great memories.
I struggled with this design until I decided to use a ready-made background paper. Flowers aren't my thing for this kind of page, but I was stuck as to how to move forward. At that point, it was more important to finish than to be fussy about the theme of the paper - plus, the paper really fit the items on my page - breaking just where I needed it to To read journaling, go to imgbb and click on 'full resolution' Background Paper design by ABR

That was quite some building for a library! Lovely to read about your early reading days. Funny that I don't remember visiting libraries very much when growing up, but ended up working in a university library, then a medical library and finally a public library. Best job in the world.

I spent a lot of time at my neighborhood library which was walking distance from my home. Those were the days when 10 year olds could walk anywhere and be safe. When I got a little older, I was able to walk downtown. It was less than 1.5 miles. I could also take a city bus. There were 5 lines that ran within 3 blocks of my house.
Milwaukee is a large urban area in the shadow of Chicago, which was less than 90 miles away. We had the big city life without the problems Chicago had. My first post-high school job was at a clothing company - again, within walking distance of my house.
It was an ideal location for a family that didn’t have a car until my brothers got old enough to drive and buy their own cars. Dad never drove. I can no longer envision a life where I didn’t have a car at my fingertips.

What an interesting back-story, Janice. I didn't grow up in a city but walked all over our factory town at a very young age. I remember once when I was about 10 I went on an "adventure" and took the ferry across to Staten Island all by myself. Such different times......and going to the library was always a special treat.
