A few years ago (and then some) I saw an image of a wolf (I think), or perhaps an eagle, which was a beautiful portrait of the subject, but when you looked closely it was made up of other small images. I don't think it was a mosaic, but I could be wrong.
Does anyone know what this type of art is called, or have an example of it?

These tutorials allow you to scale the size of the images, change the blending mode, reduce opacity/contrast. The images are defined/applied as a pattern.
