This prairie roof barn is on the North side of US Hwy 62, just West (South) of Macon. Macon water tower is visible across the barn roof. This barn is unique in that it is laid up to the square with cement block. 38° 57' 33.00" North Latitude 83° 44' 1.97" West Longitude Elevation: 1,078' Photo Taken through the glass of a Moving Vehicle Eastbound US Hwy 62 Macon, Ohio Brown County Sunday_19-December-2021

I almost didn't post this one; however, it is a perfect example of the difficulties associated with taking photos from inside a moving vehicle. This interesting barn is on the North (West) side of US Hwy 62, just West (South) of CR95/Stivers Road, East (North) of Fincastle, and just 3/4-mile North of the 39th parallel. This barn is unique in that it is sitting on eleven rounds of cement block. 39° 00' 38.72" North Latitude 83° 42' 24.69" West Longitude Elevation: 1,053' Photo Taken through the glass of a Moving Vehicle Eastbound US Hwy 62 Fincastle, Ohio Brown County Sunday_19-December-2021

It is not every day that you see a brick barn. I believe this to be actual brick construction and not brick veneer. Located on the North side of US Hwy 62, in the North-East corner of the junction with CR96B/Incline Road, just West of Ash Ridge. 38° 54' 11.62" North Latitude 83° 45' 50.41" West Longitude Elevation: 1,029' Photo Taken through the glass of a Moving Vehicle Eastbound US Hwy 62 Ash Ridge, Ohio Brown County Sunday_19-December-2021

This Gambrel Roof barn is on the North (West) side of US Hwy 62; immediately across the highway from CR207. 38° 56' 29.11" North Latitude 83° 44' 10.30" West Longitude Elevation: 1,029' Photo Taken through the glass of a Moving Vehicle Eastbound US Hwy 62 Ash Ridge, Ohio Brown County Sunday_19-December-2021 On this side, someone has made an attempt at covering the wooden boxing with 1970s "Aluminum" siding; there was not a trace of Aluminum in this siding marketed as Aluminum; it was Tin; a magnet would stick firm. On this side, it appears that Jack Aubrey has made a direct hit with a twelve-pounder on a Larboard roll. That little articulated tractor in the background is a 330-horsepower Versatile 935.

This barn is on the South (East) side of US Hwy 62, West (South) of Ash Ridge, between the Mennonite church to the West and Dan's Muffler Shop to the East. This is a Prairie Roof barn; the peak of a Prairie Roof is much steeper and narrower than that of a Gambrel Roof. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prairie_barnIt is sad to see these buildings in such condition; it is obvious that this was once a showplace and a source of pride for both the builders and the owners. 38° 53' 50.41" North Latitude 83° 45' 52.35" West Longitude Elevation: 991' Photo Taken through the glass of a Moving Vehicle Eastbound US Hwy 62 Ash Ridge, Ohio Brown County Sunday_19-December-2021

This big barn is on the Eastern (Northern) outskirts of Russellville, on the North (West) side of US Hwy 62. It is suffering from one of the weaknesses of cement block construction; a section of the block wall has blown out. 38° 52' 42.70" North Parallel 83° 47' 4.90 West Meridian Elevation: 958' Photo Taken through the glass of a Moving Vehicle Westbound US Hwy 62 Russellville, Ohio Brown County Sunday_19-December-2021

Be honest; are you, or were you ever, a tobacco chewer ? I was once, in 1972, for about fifteen minutes, thanks to James Haggard. He was two years younger than me; we were sitting on a hay wagon in over 100° heat; and, he opened that foil pouch of Beechnut, poked his two grimey fingers in there, came out with a large mouthful of moist wonderful-smelling tobacco, and proceeded to cram it into his mouth. I never in my life smelled anything that smelled better. With a look of sincere genuine generosity, he held the open pouch in my direction and nodded toward it. Not to be outdone by that wormy squirt, I tried my best to conceal the fact that I had never before partaken of such a manly pleasure as I did my best to emulate the manner in which he two-fingered such a large quantity from the confines of the foil pouch. Did I say it smelled good ? I never smelled anything better. Once in my trap and my trap shut and going about the serious business of savoring that wonderful nectar, I made an awakening discovery; it did not taste anything like it smelled. It had more like a taste of a mixture of DDT and Bromine Gas with a bit of Kerosene and Tidy Bowl thrown in. I tried not to let on. Did I say it was over a hunnert degrees ? and humid too. All I can say is that I will never be bothered with liver problems or have anything wrong with my pancreas, nor about half of my large intestine, as I left them puddled up by the left-hind tire of that hay wagon. I don't think there is a human alive that James didn't share my misery with. I still feel the effects of it today; and, I cannot get that taste out of my mouth. This Mail Pouch Tobacco barn, in need of a paint refresh, is on the South (East) side of US Hwy 62, in the North corner of the CR1008/Elk River Road junction. It is a bit confusing as we are traveling North-West on an East-bound highway. The highway is on the North bank of the Ohio and parallels the river, sometimes breaking away and sliding into the river. The faded lettering says "CHEW - MAIL POUCH - TOBACCO" and barely legible across the bottom "TREAT YOURSELF TO THE BEST" There were more than 20,000 of these barns across 22 states. Great story BuckSkin ! Happily that is one of the experiences I have NOT had, and am even more grateful now that I have heard your story. I did have a similar experience with rum while in high school and wasn't able to stand the smell of it for many years after.
Anyway, I do like some of your barn pictures, documenting your environs.

So I almost passed the post above with just a quick look.....but I decided to click the links. It was interesting to read about the history and popularity of these barns and how the farmers were compensated for the advertising.
I checked FB and there is actually an Old Barn FB group.

This Gambrel Roof Barn is West of Mayslick, on the South side of US Hwy 68, immediately East of KY Hwy 367/Nepton Road.(NOTE:wikipedia information on KY Hwy 367 is a bit dated as 367 now continues several miles into Mason County to connect with US Hwy 68) Unlike the majority of barns in the region that have been boxed vertically with green rough-sawn lumber; this barn has been boxed horizontally with dressed, kiln-dried, either tongue-and-groove or ship-lap planks. This is a very well-built barn. Although we are on an Eastbound road, for several miles we are heading North by North-West. This barn and two silos are on the East side of US Hwy 68, between the highway and the North Fork of the Licking River, North of Mays Lick. This is the true North Fork of the Licking River that originates just North-East of Wallingford on KY Hwy 559, forming the Fleming and Lewis County Line, and dumps into the Licking River, forming the point where Bracken, Pendleton, and Harrison Counties converge and inaccessible by any road. Notice the sink-hole to the right of the barn and note how much greener the grass is in the depression leading from the sink-hole; this is most likely due to a subterranean spring.
