Are they in a heat controlled environment, Tony? It must be too cold in Canada, otherwise. I have a room in the basement where I grow stuff under LED grow lights - so pretty much the same temperature year round. Tony |

A contrast to the beautiful living foliage in this week's contributions - here is foliage wrought in stone. Stiff leaf capitals decorate the 13th century arcade in the church of Great Gaddesden in Hertfordshire. Good thing I took this yesterday as it is damp and blustery today and the "hangeroner" leaves are falling like .... well, like leaves.  I isolated the in-focus leaves, duplicated them and blurred the background. Red osier dogwood ( Cornus sericea) in our yard.  |

Didn't have to go too far for this one - it's a sugar maple we planted around 15 years ago. The woodpeckers tap it for sugar in the spring, it's good for shade in the summer and it's very colourful in the fall. A nice blue sky today to contrast with the foliage. Added Sunday Oct 24: Same tree a week later - right at the peak of colour I suspect as there was a frost last night and the leaves are falling fast. Tony, beautiful and bold-colored foliage. The solid blue sky was the perfect background for this display by Mother Nature. |

From our yard today Leaves overhanging from our neighbours' yard. Amur maple ( Acer ginnala). The leaves are becoming sparse. A seedling amur maple in our yard that sprouted from seed from the tree above. Red Osier Dogwood ( Cornus sericea) leaves on a large specimen in our yard. The blending of the red and yellows is nice. These native shrubs adorn our lake edges and streambanks. Oddly it's lost few leaves yet despite a few hard frosts. Clive, nicely done! These three images would make a wonderful foliage collage. |
