There are a lot of old cemeteries like that, Clive, throughout the UK. Unless your family were from Co. Durham, then I doubt very much that it would be this one. Oh, just remembered, there is a much newer cemetery, the other side of town. I don't recall seeing any new graves at St Cuthbert's.

What's left of the original town cemetery - last used around 1880 and most of the stones got moved around or removed - this collection of stones is what's left. It was thought that there was no map of the original grave locations but one was found a couple of years ago by a summer student doing a research project on town history and there are plans to do some restoration of the area. The graveyard of St. Olave's church in the City of London is tiny, and hemmed in by modern offices. Much more impressive is its gateway, with its five skulls and its crown of spikes to deter body-snatchers. It presented such a sinister picture to Charles Dickens, that he renamed the church Saint Ghastly Grim. i.ibb.co/TmZt416/Gateway.jpgBrenda

Another very timely theme. I'll be visiting a lot of graveyards this week, some authentic and others set up as seasonal installations. Here's one of the latter from this morning. Thanks for the theme Sepiana Bill, WOW! That’s quite a seasonal graveyard and you did a great job capturing it. Amazing details!

Stopped by our local cemetery in the rain today - so the grass is very green! This was a three shot pano taken from the top of the hill - appropriately the cemetery is called Hillsdale. And a more seasonal graveyard nearby Tony, my favorite is the panorama. I really like how you shot it from the top of the hill; it emphasizes the "hill" angle.

Clive, I like how you shot it -- giving the viewers a glimpse of this cemetery through the open gate. A gravesite vs a graveyard. Chaney: Best hunting dog ever (Note there are two spellings: Chaney and Chancey. I prefer Chaney, but like in the Pink Panther movie, "It's not my dog." ) On the shores of Tyrrell Lake in southern Alberta. October 27, 2021 Good thing you saw this gravesite. Definitely not the usual kind. I like it.

Yesterday I walked through Abney Park Cemetery in Stoke Newington. My book calls it a "cheerfully eerie place". In Abney Park Cemetery is the grave of William Booth and his wife, the founders of the Salvation Army. Matthew Matthew, I love a graveyard with a history. The 1st shot is impressive -- great composition. It’s my favorite!

The dull miserable weather this morning, just set the scene nicely. whippet, I quite agree. It created an eerie graveyard scene. Good thing you were there to capture it.

Check the Year - No it was not photoshopped Frank, how did you find this tombstone? Amazing! Great job capturing its carved details.

I had hoped to get out for something better this week but it doesn't look like that's going to happen so I will go with these two taken the other day. Helen, I see nothing wrong with these two shots. They fit this week's theme and they are timely. Nice job!

I spent the morning in a couple cemeteries today. Here are five of the shots. Four of the more 'traditional' variety: Thanks again for the theme Sepiana. Please don't feel compelled to comment on them all. ;-) Bill, a great job on five counts. I’m hard-pressed to pick a favorite but I’ll go with the Scrabble tombstone. What a capture! We can read "everything" on it.

OK, one more and I'll stop. Bill, this is a winner! Great composition -- with the tree branches framing the tombstones. Frame and hang it on the wall! And don't stop! There is no posting deadline!

Abington (Saint Peter and Saint Paul) Churchyard Jim, nice finding for this week’s theme -- a churchyard. I like how you composed your shot, giving us a "wide" view of this churchyard.
