About 20 or 30 years ago (?) Canadian Pacific Railway restored several old passenger cars and 50s diesel engine. They provide 3 to 5-day luxury tours in Western Canada. Tours range from $11,000 to $14,000 CAD for 3 or 4 night trips!! (They are not running at this time perhaps because of the virus.) Our fleet of fully restored vintage Canadian Pacific Railway carriages were built between 1916 and 1931. The silver settings, brass fittings, burled tables, brocade chairs, wall paneling of Circassian walnut and bird’s eye maple imported from Russia, and open vestibules are the pinnacle of a bygone tradition of elegance. This promo video is quite old but gives and idea. www.royalcanadianpacific.com/www.royalcanadianpacific.com/train/www.royalcanadianpacific.com/luxury-excursions/The train used to stop at Cowley near our summer place. The tourists were bussed to Waterton Lakes National Park for a side (day) trip...about 50 minutes away. I took this (and other photos) in 2010 while the train was on a siding in Cowley. A huge juxtaposition of cultures: a fancy luxury train for the mega rich parked in Cowley across from the Cowley Coop ag center that sells fence posts, baling twine, chicken feed and paint to local ranchers and locals. (Perhaps not such a juxtaposition given that many of the area ranchers and landowners are also mega wealthy. ) Cool looking train. All of the links found here are wonderful! To be able to take one of the Canadian Pacific Railways tours would be a real treat!! Thank you for showing this information here!

A pair of brake shoes on the ground next to McKinney Spur Be it locomotive or freight car, these brake shoes are pretty much universal. I have replaced many a pair and nothing could be simpler/easier. A slender steel bar slides down through slots and catches the two slots that are visible on the rounded center. Nothing but gravity keeps this bar in place. So long as the brakes are released, whack the bottom of this steel bar with a hammer or any substitute for a hammer; slide the bar out and the old shoe will fall off; line up the new shoe and drop the bar back in place = done. I could replace the brake shoes on a whole fleet of boxcars while a trained mechanic was replacing the brakes on a single wheel of the family car. 37° 27' 14.10" North Latitude 84° 45' 32.78" West Longitude Elevation: 1,016' McKinney Depot CNO&TP - Norfolk & Southern Railway McKinney - Lincoln County - Kentucky Saturday_18-September-2021

I found another image I have on my Flickr Account of the Rail Yard in Elkhart and the first page (only page I was able to photograph in the National New York Central Museum in Elkhart, Indiana) Here is the look of the yards from the air back in the 50's or 60's IMG_5681-crop-resize2 by inspeqtor, on Flickr This is the letter announcing the opening of the Robert R. Young Yard a $14,000,000 project opening in 1958 I only have the first page of this letter. IMG_5687-Rotate-Cropped-Resize by inspeqtor, on Flickr

That aerial view sure shows the intricacy of the layout.
It would be awfully easy to get confused and throw the wrong switch; I wonder just how many switches are in that yard.

I showed the same view but from a much different angle in the Google Earth view. This latest view is a much clearer view of what the yard layout really is. They did a very good job of planning this out before they built it that is for sure!!

Thank you for this information BuckSkin!! I have Dish Network, and did not think I had that channel but found I do have it!! It is a "high" channel number for me and have never gone that high before, but I kept looking and there it was there! I do wish the program would have been longer than 30 minutes, but I am excited to watch it after it is recorded to my DVR

I have a vast collection of RxR videos and documentaries on VHS and some DVD; if you can find them, the Morrison-Knudsen videos are quite good.

Just typing "Niagras & Mohawks" was enough to find them IF you are also interested. I do not have a VHS player anymore ....sigh....

I do not have a VHS player anymore ....sigh.... Good, working VCR are rare as hen's teeth and quite pricey when you can find them on EBay. A few years ago, I scavenged EBay and bought five more to have on hand should something happen to the only one I had; it's good I did as soon thereafter it quit; one of the EBay units somehow decided to quit during transit and has never worked for me; and, another of them lost audio a few weeks ago. After me searching EBay and paying a small fortune for the ones I got, some lady was cleaning out a deceased relatives house and gave my mother three that were better than the ones I bought. I can't find anyone who will work on VCRs; my attempts have always ended in frustration. I bought a iOData video converter from Amazon and have successfully digitized about half of my collection. I got derailed onto something else and have not went back to finish them. I have tried at least three other brands and none of them have worked so well as the iOData. >>>EDIT - EDIT - EDIT: Here are Amazon links to two of the video capture devices: iO-Data - I only paid $25: www.amazon.com/dp/B00428BF1Y/?coliid=I2CYSN8UR11USM&colid=2IL3MBX54J000&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_itTOTMC - $15 right now - works fine and comes with some great software but the one I had did not last as well as the iO-Data www.amazon.com/dp/B00M7T8T1E/?coliid=I27TRWROPGA9DQ&colid=2I8QDAZQKV45I&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Thank you Janice!! Of course it would be there!! You a smart gal!!! <grin> Going to Youtube I find there are 2 different versions of the same "Big Trains Rolling", the first one I watched was 23 min 55 seconds in running time. This was 2 or 3 days ago. The second one had a running time of 24 min 25 seconds. I watched about 1/2 of the 2nd version. It had different people in it and a different train, but darn near the same script, pretty much word for word. That was strange. Today I went again to look it up and found a third version. This one I am sure was the first video, except it had been changed from the original "square" TV format to a "wide screen" TV format.
