2000 Freightliner Classic XL #1011 (XL = 132-inch BBC) Caterpillar Power Note that this truck was brand-new when this photo was taken.
DuCo Transportation of Corydon, Indiana ICC:MC258433 KYU:120681 VIN:YLB19429(Note: the "Y" denotes year-model 2000)
This is a very sharp Freightliner decked out with a platform over the frame for a candidates campaign crew to stand on and toss candy, ink-pens, campaign buttons, and such to the parade watchers.
2000_Lanesville Heritage Weekend Parade Lanesville, Indiana Franklin Township Harrison County Population 546 (2010 census) Saturday_09-September-2000
This is a scan of a very washed-out faded 5x7 print that was not very good on it's best day. Taken with a cheap 35mm Polaroid point-n-shoot.
If I had chosen to print 4x6 instead of 5x7, the front bumper may not have been chopped off; at that time, I didn't understand about such things. Also, if I had attempted to step back to get more of the truck in the shot, there would have been fifty peoples heads in the foreground.

Well you have good color in the photo above. I can see where it must have been a very impressive truck.

1997 Peterbilt 379 and East Frameless Dump Trailer
Enroute to the festival, we stopped at the new Doc's Market on KY Hwy 55, just North of Columbia, and saw this demolished East Frameless Dump Trailer being towed behind a 1997 Short-hood 379 Peterbilt.
Although it could have been wrecked in a highway accident, I say it is more than likely the trailer flipped while dumping. This style of trailer is notorious for tipping over and taking the truck over with them. If ever in the vicinity of one of these trailers being dumped, give it a wide berth; else, you could end up underneath it.
Notice that the trailer dollies are missing, most likely damaged in such a way as to require them to be removed before transport. At about 1/3 back from the front, the top joint of the hoist cylinder can be seen sticking out above the trailer side. Other than scrap, there is very little that can be salvaged from this trailer.
The truck belongs to Billy Sam, Sam's Trucking, of New Tazewell, Tennessee. Plate #V637HZ MC# 467591 USDOT# 1060968 KYU# 212782 VIN# VN440512 The "V" tells me it is a 1997 model. Note: click the link and scroll to "Vehicle Identification Section (VIS)" Note2: Most trucks only display the last eight of the seventeen VIN characters; so, the first character you see is the year model.
If I hadn't been with three anxious females, two of them with no patience whatsoever(the adults), I would have walked around and photographed all sides and up close and underneath; and, I would have inquired as to what engine and transmission the truck had; I also would have asked just how the trailer came to be in such a shape. I may have even took some photos from inside the cab. As it is, I quickly snapped the photos I got from plumb across the parking lot and glad to get them. If I lived very near a truck stop, I would soon be buried under a landslide of pictures.

I see that the left side forward spot mirror is missing in action; the bracket is there, but no mirror. Besides the year-model, what tells me this is a "379" and not a "359" is the way the air breather is right against the hood, with no big black hose elbow visible; that hose elbow is a dead giveaway on a "359".

If I lived very near a truck stop, I would soon be buried under a landslide of pictures. This just made me smile. I think we all have some favorite things that we like to photograph.....but your enthusiasm and attention to detail comes through in all of your posts...no matter what you are taking a picture of.

One Step Ahead
1953 Peterbilt 350 "Iron Nose"
Liberty - Casey County - Kentucky Saturday__14-May-2022
1953 was the first year for the familiar red-oval Peterbilt logo and the last year for the "350"
Lettered for Wayne Floyd Gate Company of Liberty, Kentucky; a short walk North and across the highway from where the truck now sits. KYU 091333 67438 (of which I have no idea as to the significance of) Empty Weight: 32,000 lbs = This is no toy. Last Plate: Kentucky - 2CA-201 - 44,000 lbs - Expired 3-31-07(as best I can determine - I can't see it getting in such bad condition in such short time) It has been on the road recent enough to have an IFTA sticker.
If this is the truck I think it is, I had opportunity to buy it some thirty years ago and should have; you can guarantee that if I had, it would not look like this now. At that time, it had a gate-hauler flat instead of a fifth-wheel, which would account for the 44,000-lb plate; and, as best I remember, it had a big Cummins.
Look HERE and HERE
To really appreciate what this truck once was and could be again, watch these two companion videos, Part 1 and Part 2
This has Detroit Series 60 placards on both sides, which is rather unfathomable; as, the Series 60 engines are the first totally electronic diesels. Of course, that may explain the demise and totally deplorable condition of the truck; electronic engines are a death ticket even for a brand-new truck where they were designed to be; to remove a sensible bullet-proof fully mechanical engine from such a classic and try to employ an electronic nightmare is a foolhardy move indeed. Hopefully, the placards were just added as eye candy and no electronic invasion has occurred.
This looks like classic "Taylor" pinstriping. In the 70s/80s/90s, no truck was complete until Taylor of Louisville worked his pinstriping magic on it. I have seen him do trucks in the parking lot of Taylor County Stockyards and also on slow days at the Gaddie-Shamrock quarry at Zion.
It now resides on the West side of US Hwy 127, at the bottom of Antioch Hill on the North side. Who knows; I may own it yet....I hope you like it. --- and WATCH the videos....

So I have to say that I'm not really that interested in information about all the truck details but I do like looking at them. You have definitely made me notice more than I ever did before. I liked the videos. Such a nice story by that young man who worked to save money to buy the truck for his grandfather. It was interesting to see him working the gears and driving the truck (in his socks!) in the second video. I wondered if the red barn he passed was one in your collection. And just for you, I took this picture earlier of yet another delivery of palm trees.

The woods are full of these; 95% of them white. So have they been abandoned in the woods? Didn't quite follow that....but it just might be me.

Nice addition to this thread....something not seen around here. Thanks ! I had to walk around that thing at the convenience store yesterday and snapped those two shots with my Canon S90 pocket camera. From what I hear, logs are really high right now and everybody and their brother are logging. We do our own share of logging; but, I own my own saw-mill and have never sold a log; I just use the lumber myself.
