Had to go to the city this morning. Grabbed my camera on the way out with the "trains" challenge in mind. CP Rail has no public sked for its freight trains so seeing one is by chance only. Ha. As I arrived at the RR crossing to turn onto the freeway the lights of an approaching train could be seen. I left 15 minutes early so was in no rush so I backed up and parked near the crossing and waited. The train coming and going on the edge of town. Clive, great timing and great idea (capturing the train coming and going). Sharp and colorful images.

A near-by train station..... Another historic train station from a near-by town. Helen, nice finding to fulfill this theme. It's interesting to see two architecturally-different and historic train stations.

Here's our train station as it was (the picture on the wall on the right) and as it is now - the original station now a library on the left. I took the picture from what would have been the old track - now car parking and a farmer's market. Tony, great capture! I like how you took your shot allowing the viewers to see the Before and After. What a change!

Was browsing in the bookstore and found this. Jacki, and a nice finding it was -- a book on travelling by train. Good thing you noticed it.

Different Train Companies each have their own type of running stock with distinctive liveries. Here Thameslink and SWR pass each other on the approach to Lewisham Station in south London. Matthew Matthew, beautiful shot! Well composed, downwards perspective, curvy leading lines. Worth framing and hanging on the wall!

Oops! I've made a blunder - the photograph above is Matthew's, but as he is profoundly deaf he is not comfortable writing the text, so I always do it for him. This evening I received the following "slap on the wrist" text message: "Thanks. But not SWR. It is Overground. Also not to Lewisham station, it is Brockley Station. Overground train." I am suitably chastened..... Brenda Brenda, this so funny! It shows Matthew knows his trains. I love it!!!

Just one of Matthew's large collection of railway books, fitting the theme perfectly. Dennis Dennis, yes, indeed! Great shot -- sharp details, narrow cropping and . . . perfect for this theme.

Two freight train encounters today: one heading east and one west. Three engines (two CPR and one BNSF) hauling assorted resource cars going west. The tanker cars contain anhydrous ammonia and methanol. Westbound train through our small town. Probably hauling grain to Vancouver and then on to Asia. Clive, another great finding to fulfill this theme. The details are impressive. Well done!

These new indicator boards at Waterloo Station give valuable information as to what time and from which platform your train will leave. Incidentally, they also give a good picture of the disruption caused by Storm Eunice and its aftermath - two days after Eunice, the high winds are still causing delays and cancellations. Brenda Brenda, you never cease to surprise me. What a great idea -- linking your subject to a current Mother Nature's event! Two sharp and detailed shots. We can easily read the information on the indicator boards.

Portland light rail this morning. Bill, simply beautiful! I love your creativity in composing this shot -- getting low, capturing the light rail from under the gates.
