Transportation = anything that moves things from one place to another. So trains, planes, automobiles, drones, wagons, skateboards, seeds blowing in the wind, feet - the opportunities are endless. So let's see what you can come up with. The challenge is also to pick images that fit the theme and work well in black and white - that often involves adjusting the colour balance during the conversion and most software will let you do this. In black and white film days that was done with filters on the camera - now you can do it digitally. Here's a transportation picture - a local coastguard boat that breaks ice and lays buoys to aid transportation. The huil is bright red and by adjusting the colour intensity or filter during the conversion you can change the hull colour from black to white. I decided a mid grey worked best in this case so that's what I went with - but I found it interesting how much the picture changed by tweaking the colour conversions. Tony

Your image immediately reminded me of this dredge that I had taken recently for today's picture but hadn't used. Glad to see that I didn't deleted it from LR. It was pretty close to shore so I was able to really zoom in on it. If interested you can read about the Murden here.

I couldn't resist taking this earlier this morning. I liked the way the light was hitting the catamaran.

Well as long as I was planning a visit to the Oregon Rail Heritage Center anyway ... I decided to take my camera. ;-) This is SP&S (Spokane, Portland and Seattle) engine #700 currently being restored. Plans are to have it ready for some limited service later this year. I hope so, as it's been a long wait. If you're interested in the engine ... here's a link to its Wikipedia page. EDIT - Well the link doesn't work, but if you'd like to see the Wikipedia info go to the Wikipedia page and search for Spokane, Portland and Seattle 700
Thanks for the challenge Tony!

Bill: Glad you took your camera - a great shot and fascinating to see the detail under the hood. Definitely a case where black and white works well. Couldn't get that link to work but this one did: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spokane,_Portland_and_Seattle_700 . Lots of interesting information. Helen: Excellent start - the Morden dredger story is really interesting with its split hull - so a bit like the catamaran with its twin hulls. Great lighting and composition with the docks leading to the boat. Tony

If you fly in and out of somewhere on a De Havilland Beaver floatplane, I guarantee you are in a good place. De Havilland Beaver coming into the dock at Hearne Lake, Northwest Territories, 2018. Three months today and we'll be going in again! Yay! Fish will be caught; cigars smoked and too much great food eaten. And maybe a few snapshots taken.

Clive: sounds like a great trip and it looks good in B&W. I've seen the plane regularly in Algonquin Park - the MNR use it for Search and Rescue (when canoeists get lost!). Pretty good for a plane that hasn't been manufactured since 1967

Bill - it looks like the site limits links to 30 characters (although the actual link can be longer) so this one should work: Portland and Seattle 700Tony

Not sure why they were here Probably there to back up the SWAT team as they heard there was a snipper in an area high-rise condo.
