I was amazed at how well PSE accomplished this.
Both the merge and the fill are flawless. The bottom edge is a little funky, but it was easily fixed by cropping.
I grant you, these were simple photos to merge, but when I was doing it manually, it was a bit of a hassle
Note - you need to be in Guided Mode
And, I found it was easier if the only photos you have open in your bin are the ones you wish to merge.
