This Creative Effects Challenge will show you how to create a Sepia toned image using Layers and Solid Color adjustment layers in Photoshop Elements or the full version of Photoshop.
Starting Image:
Final Image:
Please read thru the entire tutorial before you start.
Let’s get started:
1. Open an image that you want to create a Sepia toned image from.
2. Duplicate the layer (Ctrl/CMD+j).
3. Add a Solid Color adjustment layer.
a. When the Color Picker window opens – Enter the Hex Code for Sepia 704214 in the # box.
b. You can try these alternate Hex Codes 80613c, 8d7967 or 774212 or just pick one that you like.
c. Then click OK.
4. Change the Blend Mode to Color.
5. You’re Done.
Please remember you can select a different color at any time
To change the Sepia Color just make sure the color box is selected (it will be highlighted) on the Solid Color adjustment layer and double-click on the color box. Then enter or select your new Color as outlined in step 3.
You can always click on the little circle in the Color Picker window and click and drag it to the color you want. You may want to write down the Hex Code for that color before you click OK in case you want to use it again.
But wait - you can just use the action that I have supplied.

The action allows you to decide what Sepia tone to use as it has supplied two Sepia color choices or you can change them at any time as described above.
You can even go as far as to add a Layer Mask and get a completely different look.
Final Layer Stack using the Action and adding a Layer Mask:
Please post your start and final images. Experiment and Have Fun!
