One of my first layouts.. I can see just what I tried - - that edge was an attempt to do torn paper and since I couldn't do that, I added a bunch of layer styles... - the reason the photo is weirdly shaped is because I needed to trim distracting things from it and didn't know how to clone or otherwise improve the photo... - the background is brushes because I had not yet discovered scrapbook kits or else I was heavy into PSE techniques... - all text in those days had some form of technique on it - looks like this one is a gold layer style It is fun to look back and see how one has improved and also, to try and figure out just what one was 'thinking'

Next phase 2007 - Using PSE shapes on photo - with layer styles - Outlining text - Using a background paper created by designer - Adding some clip art I can't believe it's been over 15 years since I started using PSE I'm so glad I discovered it. Digital Scrapping has brought me such joy. photos: cats4jan

One of my favorite layouts (and tours) using multiple photos and a photo as the background layer I was big on offsetting the photo from the mat - I still do that with framing and outlining - I just love offset We were at a salmon dinner at this lodge where this bear had made his home. He patiently waited until the grill cooled to get his share of supper. The second most exciting part of this trip - the seaplane we used to get there. photos: cats4jan

I see your eyes are glazing over Not at all Janice. It's nice to see how your work has evolved. You might even want to add some of your favorite layouts since 2011. I remember when I first joined a camera club. They had a critique by seasoned members for us newbies. The man looked at my picture and asked, "What is it a picture of?". And darned if when I look at some of my more recent pictures I can ask myself that same thing!

My work has evolved and sometimes I’m amazed at how well a layout turns out, but sometimes I’m more amazed at how badly a layout comes out. 😳 Here are two of my more recent favorites - but then again, who doesn't like golden retriever puppies and jell-o
I'm afraid, due to lack of new photos, my more recent work output has dramatically diminished Layouts mean more to me when they have a personal meaning - I don't get the same joy creating layouts from others' photos These two were a part of an alphabet challenge - challenges are one exception to my 'use your own photos' rule

It’s interesting to see your progression in the scrapping world Janice.
Looking back at some of my early work I am embarrassed to say the least. My use of bevels for example...At the start I bevelled an item to death which is not the way the bevel is meant to be used. Same with shadows. I created such dark sharp shadows. But that is how we learn I guess, trial and error. I look at some of my later pages and I’m actually quite impressed (am I allowed to say that) and I wonder to myself ‘how did you do that’ because I’ve forgotten now. And more importantly I say to myself ‘why can’t you do it now’! I feel at times as if I’m regressing rather than continuing to progress...

I have thoroughly enjoyed viewing these beginner pages and your assessments of what you could do back then. I can remember feeling very chuffed with myself when I finally managed to finish a scrapbook page (paper). I could take hours to get it all into position, of course all this is so much more easier with digital scrapbooking and I’m embarrassed to admit that it can still take hours to come up with something that I think works..... I do tend to only make pages with my own photos, but I do appreciate what Lillias can do with found images and I learn so much about other techniques that I would never come up with myself. I can’t remember my first digital page, but I know it was about learning how to make a curled corner that started me off, I have pages of instructions on how to achieve it, thanks to PanosFx it’s so much easier now!

Here is the first complete page I ever did. It was done using the CraftArtist software and items from some of their kits - I don't remember which ones now. You will see quite clearly what I meant in my previous post about my use/overuse of the bevel...sooooooooooo bad. This is a good example of how NOT to do things...

Believe me it can take me hours or days to complete a page to my satisfaction. But I don't let that worry me. I tell myself it's all part of the creative process...LOL.

You can overwork a layout. Sometimes it’s better to walk away. Sometimes it’s better to walk away for a long time. 🤣

Those look really good. When you photograph a paper layout, it sure looks like a digital one. 😉
I never paper scrapped. I fell into digital scrapbooking while looking for scrapbook kits to use for greeting cards. Actually, heard about scrapbooking from a book called Digital Scrapbooking in Easy Steps. I found that book while looking for a book to help me learn PSE. While doing scrapbooking projects from that book, I learned PSE.
A chance find at the bookstore sent me on this journey.

Jacki? Is that snow or white sand? Well you may sneer, but yes it was more sludgy than snowy on that day many moons ago, but I can tell you that it was cold and the kids weren't impressed with being cold and wet. Funny, no one has ever mentioned anything about going back.... We are only about 3 hours away from the Victorian snowfields, Mt Buller, Mt Baw Baw, Mt Stirling, Lake Mountain, but you'd have to drag me kicking and screaming to get me there.
