I’m not usually comfortable using templates but I started this page with an Art template by one of my favourite designers - Tiramisu Designs. The template is from her ‘Enjoyable Time’ range and I have added one or two items from her ‘Dare to Dream’ and ‘Delicate’ kits. The image is from Pixabay. I have also included a small flattened version of the template for comparison.

One of my favorite designers also. That is a beautiful template.
Unlike you, I’m happier when starting with a template. It’s a road map, but like a road map, one can take detours. Many times my finished layout has absolutely no connection to the template but it still always helps me think.
For others thinking of using a template, realize everything on your template can be edited or deleted because every item is on its own layer. You can use as much or as little of the original template as you want. You can see here that Lillias stuck “to the plan” but she could have just as easily manipulated every piece of the template

I like that the template only calls for one picture, Lillias. Your addition of flowers and ribbon adds a depth that was missing in the original design. The changes in the font add interest.....love the saying.

…and the mask helps the photo “spill out” from the frame. Beautifully executed, Lillias.
The additional items really put the finishing touch on this layout

Thank you ladies.
You are correct Janice...the template comes with layers which makes it possible to rearrange all the items included, or indeed to dispose of any not wanted. I liked this one so much as is that I didn’t change much really. But it’s amazing how the addition of the image and a few little bits and bobs and a few small shadows thrown into the mix can make a big difference. You could even change the colour of the items if wished which would give a whole new look too.
I like the word art too Helen. It came with the template so that made it easy for me.

A template can be looked upon as a starting place to compose a page. To illustrate how the same template can be used in different ways as mentioned previously by Janice the page you see here is based upon the same template used for the opening post of this thread. As you will see I have removed quite a few items which come with the template such as the photo frames and the floral clusters. I changed the colour of the main background wash from blue to green. I added a watercolour paper as the background and also colour washes and brushes all part of a set of Master Watercolour Procreate Brushes by Trailhead Design Co from Design Cuts. The word art comes from another template by Tiramisu Designs and the flowers are Helens from her Creating a Layout Challenge which can be found HereWould you have guessed this came from the same template as the first one?

Absolutely not! You have motivated me to see what I may have available to try something like this.

Lillias has surely proven my point. A template is a starting point. Where you go with it is up to you.
Another beauty, Lillias

Well this took me way too long to do......but here's my attempt. A good example of how to make a template work for you Helen. Nicely done and that’s a great sentiment. Personally I don't mind how long it takes as I enjoy the actual process. I would rather take the time necessary to end up with a result I liked. Remember you can always save it as you go along and come back to it another day if that suits better. Sometimes indeed coming back to a page gives you a fresh eye on the composition etc; and you have the opportunity to change things round if necessary.
