Mockup Room image from Rawpixel, Cat from HiClipart and watercolour washes by Trailhead Designs from Design Cuts.
I placed the image of the cat into the mockup frame and then placed each watercolour wash below the cat and giving each of those layers the multiply blend mode. Using a layer mask on each watercolour wash layer I brushed away most of the effect around the nose and eyes of the cat. I manoeuvred each layer to a position that seemed right to me and called it done.

I've often seen these watercolor washes and wondered how they might be used. Thanks for sharing......I never would have thought to do something like that.

I've often seen these watercolor washes and wondered how they might be used. Thanks for sharing......I never would have thought to do something like that. Regarding the brushes I referenced above - Master Watercolor Brushes - Ultimate Edition by Nathan Brown.
I just saw a live workshop on Design Cuts where Nathan showed how to use the brushes and his ready made colour washes. Until I saw that I didn’t really know how to use these colour washes myself. He includes 50 of the ready made washes in his pack but you could also make your own with the other brushes in the pack. His brushes are great but to get the best out of some of them you really need to use a tablet with a pressure sensitive pen. Watching him demonstrate them it was just like seeing an artist painting live in watercolour - just amazing. I have a small wacom tablet which I never came to terms with. One of these days I must look it out and try it again.

Interesting, Lillias. I did check my dropbox to see if I had any washes. I do....but most of them look like color blobs to me.....unlike what I see in your screenshots. Knowing you, this won't' be your last attempt with these. Looking forward to seeing what you do next....and checking out his youtube videos.

Thanks Billie Jean for sharing how to use watercolor washes. I didn't know exactly how to use them. Great application to the kitty.

Thanks Billie Jean for sharing how to use watercolor washes. Thanks Karen. Prior to seeing Nathan Brown showing how to use the watercolour washes in his latest live workshop on Design Cuts Community I didn't know how to use them either. So much to learn but it can be fun.

I am not skilled in doing this, but it's a treat to see others' work. I love the look.

BG is another mockup from Rawpixel. Added images from HiClipart, Pixabay and Watercolour washes by Nathan Brown of Trailhead Design Co. This one is different from my first one and it has been a bit of a struggle to do it. I think I prefer the first one to this! My beginners luck ran out with this one I'm afraid. More practice needed - much more.

I looked into that bundle you referenced today, Lillias. Looked overwhelming to me. I agree not as good as your first one....but there's nothing wrong with sharing our "not what we had hoped for images". Keeping it real

I looked into that bundle you referenced today, Lillias. Looked overwhelming to me. I agree not as good as your first one....but there's nothing wrong with sharing our "not what we had hoped for images". Keeping it real Yes, it's quite a sizeable brush pack but for those into actual digital painting it looks like a great asset. I agree too that sharing our less than perfect attempts at whatever our art form is keeps it real and keeps us grounded...
