I'm sorry you are disappointed Jim, but I understand, as several of mine had to just go on the trash heap. I found the starter image is crucial, as are the choices along the way. FWIW, I got more pleasing results using a PNG file, putting a solid color layer behind it all. Thanks Tom. I just deleted my "throw away" first attempt. May try again later to try to compose a keeper.

Jim....you are not the only one to have "throw aways". It took me quite a few attempts before I got a keeper. I tried again today and they were all "throw aways".

*Very* nice colors Frank! I almost wish you had cropped so they were more forward.

This was a fun (and different) way to create a kaleidoscope. My starter image was from last Christmas (Santa and a couple of his helpers). I used Lighter Color for the first rotation and Darker Color for the second, cropped square and then made some colour and tone adjustments. Going to have to try some variants: Tony

Nice result Tony! The suggestion was to crop out the border, but in this case I like the faces and such that show through.

Used a floral png file from HiClipart for this one. I applied a bevel effect and a shadow to the finished item.

Twirls can produce stunning images, so I thought I would try a quick twirl and then apply the technique of this creative effects challenge to demonstrate what it can do.
I also did this: "After step 9, Choose Image | Resize | Reveal All, add a layer below and fill with a solid color, use effects such as a drop-shadow or bevel"

I tried your twirl suggestion, Tom. In order for it to work I found that the original image needed the canvas size enlarged. He does mention that on the video but I found it worked best for me if the length and width were enlarged considerably So basically my starter square was on top of a larger blank square. I would have liked my corners touching the edges like your are but my dimensions wouldn't allow that.

Very attractive result Helen! I kind of like that the corners do not touch, actually. However, it is very easy to do. The trick is to do all your rotations, etc. The corners will not be visible because the have been rotated outside the canvas, but they are still there. To expand the canvas exactly the right amount, select Image | Resize | Reveal all (I assume that option is also available in PS).

Not sure.....I certainly haven't used that before....will have to look next try. Would imagine there is something similar.
