At our County Library...... Helen, these are great examples of public art. I like the inscription on the second sculpture -- "Endless possibilities through reading". That's so true!

An interesting embellishment to the rather mundane exterior of our local supermarket, this representation of lavender commemorates past times when lavender fields were common in this now suburban area of Surrey. Until I got out the camera this morning, I had never noticed the beautiful metallic blue of the lavender "flowers". Photography makes one take a really good look at things... Brenda Brenda, these are gorgeous! They have intricate details yet they look so delicate.

Art in a park. Artist: Keith Jellum, Statue: Vincent, Waiting for Alice. Thanks for helping me get my culture on Sepiana! Bill, this is priceless! We can almost see the expectation on his face. Where are you, Alice?

This is "Archie", the Art Deco Archer which decorates East Finchley Underground station in north London. He has been there since 1940, when the station opened. He is a symbol of the speed with which the new Northern Line trains sped southwards into central London and beyond. The missing arrow represents any one of the Underground trains rolling out of East Finchley station Matthew Mathew, great finding! The history behind Archie makes him unique. I love the missing arrow detail!

The twelve tumbling telephone boxes of Kingston, south west London. The artwork is entitled "Out of Order" and features twelve genuinely decommissioned telephone boxes, symbolising the disappearance of these once familiar icons of a less technical age. Dennis Dennis, beautiful artwork, albeit a sad one. These telephone boxes are such an icon, known all over the world.

The Secret Bench of Knowledge is a sculpture that has appropriately been outside a local public library since it was purchased in 1990. Also a nice shady spot to sit and wait for a bus! There are several copies around the world - I was quite surprised to run across one in London, UK on a visit a few years ago. It's also a popular spot for people to have their photos taken in various poses - fortunately it was empty today when I stopped by for a pic. Zoom in to read the messages. Tony, what a romantic sculpture! I like how it has those messages engraved on the bench. My favorite message? Dare to dream.

As part of a local arts community effort called the California Bear Project, the fifth installment of the series was unveiled to the community, depicting scenes in the valley’s history. The five-by-ten-foot Santa Clarita History Bear was brought to life by local artist Frank Rock. Rock lovingly named the bear “Beale Butt” because Beale’s Cut near the Newhall Pass is painted on the statue’s rear end. The statue also features Vasquez Rocks, Tiburcio Vásquez, William S. Hart, Saugus Café, the Saugus Train Station, the Oak of the Golden Dream, the Newhall Ranch House, E.M. Chaix Grocery Store, the Sierra Highway Tunnel, the Walk of Western Stars, the longest running oil rig, various animals and the St. Francis Dam, which Rock is an expert on. Jim, amazing artwork! The painting is exquisite, colorful, and detailed. I just keep going back to it.

This is the ND Medal of Honor memorial in Roosevelt Park, Minot. There are 20 Medal of Honors 9 of them were awarded for action in the Philippines beginning in 1899. This was not one of our nations finest efforts! Wikipedia has the details, of course. Among the Medals of Honor awarded is Theodore Roosevelt. He may be North Dakota's most famous ex-resident. He lived in the western part of the state, having a ranch in the Badlands from 1880's. Partly due to these experiences, he became a leader in the conservation movement. Theodore Roosevelt National Park is the best monument to this man. cjt, this is so interesting, a slice of American history! It makes one stop and ponder about it.

A little late to the art party - but I found myself being able to stop mid street on my way out of town today to snap this on the side of the building. A batman mural - fitting for the hometown of the Batman comics. i.ibb.co/k54D92S/IMG-22731.jpg
