The sun was behind me. I couldn't see a thing through the viewfinder. This is the result. Any ideas?

I would be fairly sure that is a couple of chinooks I agree. whippet these look like huge Chinook, twin-rotor helicopters. Did you hear anything?

We live next to a military base and have sightings all the time...helicopters, cargo planes and all the rest, as well as BOOMs when they are training with heavy artillery. Some in my community get nervous...but it just makes me feel safe! I do understand the concern, when they aren't a common occurence, though!

I thought at first, they were insects, but when I got my camera out, and took the photo, they had got closer, and I could see/hear what they were. alexr - quite a coincidence. Yours were travelling south, mine were heading north.
It is a regular thing for the fighter planes to do exercises at the Lake District. They sometimes do the same over us. We are always warned beforehand though.
I am as the same opinion as you, Vicki. When anyone complains about the noise, I always tell them I don't mind it, as it means we are in safe hands.

Seems they were a bit late for their migration! Hope they made it there safely. Perhaps you'll see some little Huges 'copters going South next Spring.
