Lloyd's Orchard US Hwy 127 Between KY Hwy 55 and Wolf Creek Dam Russell County - Kentucky Photos Taken through the glass of a Moving Vehicle Wednesday_10-June-2020
Located on the East side of US Hwy 127
Owned by Quinton Lloyd. This was a metropolis back in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. The hills on both sides of the road were covered in orchards. Besides being a huge wholesale and retail fruit vendor, he ran a restaurant and truck stop here as well. I am fairly certain he had gas pumps.
Nobody travelling US Hwy 127 passed here without stopping.
The road on the left used to be the main and only entrance to Lake Cumberland State Park, making this location a gold mine.
In the late 1960s/early 1970s, the new and current entrance was created just South of here; and, for several years, you could access the park via either entrance.
Probably early to mid-1980s, they closed this entrance.

Although you are on park ground as soon as you make the turn, it is another five miles on a very crooked road before you reach the park proper.
I very much preferred the impressive original entrance sign to this not so impressive one.

The minute you leave the Doughboy on the courthouse square at Jamestown and head South, the road becomes twisting and scenic, and gets more so the farther you go --- all the way to it's end at Chattanooga, Tennessee.
This is just North of Wolf Creek Dam; look close and you can just barely see the lake.
