It was interesting to see the "Technology" finds from last month. Our members always rise to the challenge.....and Alex is good about introducing a challenge that requires us to do some creative thinking. Our assignment for August is to photograph something “old”. Of course “old” is relative. What my kids consider “old” is much different than what I consider old. But the idea is to notice objects that have changed over time……they could actually be a recently purchased pair of sneakers that you have worn out…..or may be something that you come across that is actually old in your home or when you are out and about. I have toyed with keeping this wide open but think it may be more of a challenge if we concentrate on “things”. So we are not looking for buildings, whole rooms, people. Instead, look for texture, scratches, patina, changes in style, objects in a room rather than the room itself. Your “find” should clearly be the main subject in your post. I felt that these pictures.....some form the archives and some recent.....might work to start us off. Have fun and I look forward to seeing your "old" finds.

From my files, an 1800's San Francisco Streetcar I photographed at Griffith Park's Museum of Travel / Travel Town.

Thanks for getting us off to a great start, Jim! It's nice to see some of the interior. I like the detailed craftsmanship of the wooden bench.

From my files, an 1800's San Francisco Streetcar I took at Griffith Park's Museum of Travel / Travel Town. Jim, that's a very cool Trolley car. I have memories of trolleys in Philadelphia when I was very young...but nothing from later in my life. I'll have to see if the New York/Philadelphia areas have one preserved and available for photos. Great image! Helen, great suggestions in your challenge post...great images!

That same day at Griffith Park's Travel Town I also took a photo of an 1800's Horse-Drawn streetcar, but it's in color with heavy texturing added so not sure how well it would turn in B&W.

Rugged old rigging, Frank. That must have been from a great old ship.

Cephalopod circa 250 to 300 million years old. Posted in previous challenges. Found this stone on the shores of Redfish Lake near Taloyoak in the Arctic in 2014.

Both the date on the building and the date on your signature attest to the oldness of the clock, Clive. And I'm betting that the cephalopod may be the oldest image that we see in this thread.
