Through the Windshield ViewKY Hwy 1730
This is the first road on the South side of Wolf Creek Dam, on the roadwise West side of US Hwy 127 (Compass North). It connects US Hwy 127 with Manntown Road in extreme Southern Russell County; a distance, as the Crow flies, of 1.26-mile at Heading 147.11°. This road is so crooked, and with some very steep pulls, that the actual ground distance would be closer to 2.25-mile.
Photos Taken through the glass of a Moving Vehicle Wednesday_10-June-2020The farther from civilization you get, the thicker the wires get; it's at least ten miles to the nearest Coke machine.Notice how the ground falls away right beside the guardrail; in a few places, the posts are dangling in the air.
Notice how steep the road in front of us is; you have to brace yourself against the dash to keep from sliding into the floorboard.
We are heading into the Cumberland River bottoms, below the dam.
The river makes one hairpin bend after another, often taking five or ten miles to gain one mile farther from the dam.
How would you like to fight your way up out of here after a big Kentucky ice storm with ice so deep it gets big chug-holes in it ?
If you're back in here and need an ambulance, you may as well call the coroner instead.
