Passion Flower (Passiflora incarnata) Sunday_03-July-2022
These are definitely weird.
I have never seen them anywhere else.
On Saturday, 2nd day of July, I was in this same area and there was no evidence whatsoever of the existence of these weird purple blooms.
On Sunday, 3rd of July, there were hundreds upon hundreds of them; then, the next day, one would have been hard pressed to have found a single bloom.
Then, a few days later, they started showing back up in twos and threes, but nothing even close to the abundance of the 3rd.
They are only in this one small area of our place --- for now.
See what Kentucky Wildflowers, Wildflower dot org, and Wikipedia have to say about them.

I appreciate this is not this, but it reminds me of photos I've seen of beautiful sea anemones found in tropical waters the world over. Interesting find BuckSkin.

Passion Flower Vine Tendrils (Passiflora incarnata) Wednesday_03-August-2022
These are on the same vine as the weird purple blooms.
It is easy to see how they can cling to things.
Those leaves must be quite tasty as something has about eaten them away.

Great looking flower, is this a cousin to the passion fruit vine? Or a wild version of the same thing. Will there be fruit?

Passion Flower Fruit (Passiflora incarnata) Wednesday_03-August-2022
Sources say this is edible.
They are on the same vine as the weird purple blooms.
I found this one on the ground; split open, but not in two.
I figure the bush-hog is to thank for that, as I had bush-hogged earlier that day.
I have no idea just how to eat one of these, nor do I have any idea when they are ready to eat.
I figure they are like most such edibles and best left alone lest one wants to spend the next couple days within two steps of the outhouse.
A man stranded on a deserted island, starving to death, has enough troubles without adding that to the list.

Third picture down, that's the type of passionfruit that I know, often see vines with flowers when I walk around the neighbourhood. I'm not a fan of eating the fruit though, way too many seeds involved, but I do like the smell of the fruit. Some people insist on spoiling a good pavlova by dousing it in passionfruit pulp....
