I recently purchased Nik Collection 5 Will it improve the focus on pictures? Would another program work better?

Hi Charles, Based on the exif information in your image, I believe that you shooting with a 150-600 lens at 600mm with a 2x converter on a 1.6 cropped sensor camera with the lens wide open and you want to know if NIK will focus better on the image - correct? Most software, Elements ACR, NIK, Topaz will improve the sharpness of an image as they allow you to edit as needed. I used Elements camera Raw to show you the difference - I included my setting. Just a side note you may want to update the original firmware on your camera with the latest update. You get the firmware and information on the Canon Website. Good luck with your editing!

The difference from my photo to your photo is AMAZING! Thank you for showing me what can be done with my out of camera picture!! Also thank you for adding your numbers. I copied your image then put it into PSE to be able to read them. I had to increase size to 300% but that helped immensely. When opening my jpeg into RAW I did not find Sharpening under Clarity as I see in your image, but I did find Sharpening under Detail. I did not find Masking at all in PSE 2021. Why would that be? Thank you also for reminding me to update my firmware. I recently set my camera back to factory and totally forgot about the firmware. The firmware has now been updated! Since I know nothing about using camera raw how do I go about learning that? I know I cannot use your numbers from this photo on any other of my photos, even other moon photos as they will not all be near full moon. My photo with your numbers, minus the Masking 55 How much difference would the Masking number have made? How do I find Masking?

Try clicking on the Chevron next to the word Detail.

Where do I find the Raw Converter?? You were in the Raw Converter when you did File > Open in Camera Raw. That's where your moon.jpeg opened.

This time I DID find the HELP button in the lower left corner but was surprised when I clicked the help button I did NOT see anything happening while IN PSE. It was not until I closed PSE that I saw several windows open in my browser that I found the help I was expecting to see while inside PSE. That was different!

Yes I did do that and I did find Sharpening. Where do I find Masking? What is the best way for me to learn HOW to use RAW on my own?? Have a look at the last screenshot from fotofrank, where you see the sliders for Detail and Sharpening. If you enter a value for sharpening, the options for that command will appear, including masking. Alternatively, click on the triangle on the right of the sharpening slider to display those options. Don't confuse that 'masking' with the masks in the pixel editor, it's a sharpening option for more advance control of sharpness.
Tip: You'll soon find that editing in raw is much easier and faster than the pixel editor. The idea is to use the sliders top to down. First concentrate on the midtones, then on the highlights, the shadows and fine tune whites and blacks.
Keep in mind that if you have chosen (highlighted) several files in the filmstrip, your sliders settings modify all those files at the same time.

I do not quite follow this last statement. How can it modify more files than I would have currently loaded into PSE RAW if there is only one photo in the RAW conversion at one time?

The film strip acts just like the photobin in the pixel editor. It only shows the files you have chosen to open in camera raw. I often have small batches of raw file opened in ACR at the same time. Very frequently, some of those files need a common set of edits (slider settings). For instance, same white balance and shadow tuning. Or you can highlight all and click 'Auto' to start with an automatic correction. You can apply the same 'profiles' to get the same effect, for instance black and white profiles. You can do batch cropping, which is non destructive. You then highlight another set of pictures or a precise photo for another effect and apply all needed edits in the same session. Of course, don't forget to select all and either click 'Done' or 'Open' to save the 'recipe' to all the files at the end of the batch editing.

Here is a full page from my Camera Raw inside of PSE 2021. I see no way to open any more files other than the one file I do have opened here.
