I am making this for my granddaughter's 16th Birthday. I found a similar layout on Adobe Stock. I have run into a snag with the string and clips. How would you suggest I handle the photo that doesn't have the string and clip? Can I just leave it as is? I have saved everything as a PSD and have until Thursday to get this done. Have my pictures but didn't want to add them. The other hard part will be coming up with some creative text. Not sure if I will leave the background solid or add a texture or some kind of simple flowers....or something. Open to suggestions. Also does the shadowing show enough?

We all know that I'm not a scrapbooker, but I have to say that it bothers me that one photo doesn't have a string/clip! It feels like something is missing. I'll leave it to the real scrapbookers to offer other suggestions, Helen! The shadow is subtle but visible. More might be a bit heavy-handed.
P.S. Is this for Nicolette? Because that pretty blue is a GREAT color for her!

Agree about the offending frame...needs to have a hanger string. The string on the lower right frame also does not go to the top. I (crudely) moved the offending frame and added a string as shown.

I like what Clive has done, maybe a page curl or two on selected photos. I’m sure she’ll love whatever you come up with, can’t beat something made with 💕

Although Pontiac’s version is technically more accurate, the original version is “cleaner” artistically speaking. I realize sometimes something on a template bothers one, though, and that, in itself, is enough of a reason to modify it.
I would not correct the template as Pontiac has. If it bothered me, I’d “staple” that one photo to the other one and overlook the technicality that one string does not go to the top.
As for journaling, I’d sacrifice one of the photo holders and use it as a journaling block. I would not put commentary between photos and create a busier layout. - other than maybe a couple of strips with a word or two.
Alternately, I would change the layout to a square and add journaling on the bottom left and make the center bottom photo longer to balance the journaling.

This is another example of where we all have our own ideas about things.
Personally I like what Clive has done here. It accommodates all the photo frames perfectly and allows for the hangers to show on all of them.
The only thing I can’t help but notice is that the hangers are not centred on all of the photo frames so I would rectify that. But in essence I would say you have a very nice layout here Helen. The background colour is perfect. Personally I would probably darken the shadows just a teeny bit but don’t overdo it.

Lillias - good catch - I did not notice the off center string. That would bother me - but the string not going to the top would not. I’d probably justify the string not going to the top by thinking it was attached to the photo above it. LOL

Yes, this is for Nicollette, Vicki. The string/clip bothers me as well. Clive....Like how you moved the offending frame and makes me wonder why I didn't think to do that?! I like where you have positioned it. Jacki...thanks. I always enjoy trying to make something homemade for someone. Since I abandoned counted cross-stitch years ago, photography has been my tool for creation. That is why I am being gradually drawn to applying scrapbook techniques. Lillias... the hangers are not centered on all of the photo frames so I would rectify that ....true! definitely needs to be addressed. I will also try to darken shadows a tad. Janice.....I tend to agree with you about that top string. It bothers me seeing it at the top of the page so close to the other one. I think I will attempt Clive's layout without adding the string. Further thoughts....as it is mainly about the pictures, I don't want to give up one of the photo boxes for journaling BUT....think it will be a bit of a challenge using the narrow box. Thinking of using adjectives that describe her but would somehow like to acknowledge that it is her 16th birthday. Rather than the string and clips I may try using a chain and August birthstone as the "clip". The problem there is that the birthstone is a light green.....and I'm not sure that will go with the blue background. So.....I now have some idea of how to proceed.....will post my next rendition when I have it ready. I appreciate everyone's thoughts. Forgot to mention that I'm not using a square layout as I want to frame it and will use a standard frame for an 8x10 available at a store like Michael's.

Just a little update.....I tried a jewel look for the hangers but I scrapped that idea before I vested anymore time into something I wasn't liking. I am back to the clips and am using a chain instead of string. I think the chains and clips are pretty much centered. The next thing will be to work on the text box. Darkened the shadows....how do they look?

The shadows are looking fine to me. Everything is shaping up just great.

hmcaQuestion. Have you selected the photos yet? Point being, do your photos match the frame formats? I like this whole concept.

Yes, I do have the photos selected, Clive. Thank you, I like the concept, too. I am starting to work on the text frame now....I know this will be a challenge....choosing the words and making them look right in that long narrow box. I've added a hint of texture to the blue background but then not sure how to work with the text frame....stay tuned.

Here it is without the pictures. I am pretty pleased with it and have learned a few things in the process....hopefully I'll remember them for the next time. If you see any glaring issues please let me know.
and without the texture

I like the added texture. It's just enough to lift the blue and doesn't overpower the page. Lovely words to describe your granddaughter Helen.
A lovely birthday gift for her.

Thanks, Lillias. I printed it this morning and I'm quite pleased with it. Thanks to all who helped with the process.
