This is a male American goldfinch feeding one it its offspring. About 10 years ago I rigged a dead lilac (?) branch perch to the feeder pole. It's paid off on occasion, like today. The adults eat sunflower seeds and partially digest them. Then they regurgitate the glop into the mouth of the young ones.

That sounds appetizing; that's worse than the girls at the nursing home chewing steak for the toothless inhabitants.

Haven't they heard of blenders?

These guys are so pretty. I learned that they turn yellow in summer - the males brighter (like most birds) - I assume to attract mates. Until I learned that, I wondered where the gold colored ones were during the winter. Finally realized what was going on - when I saw the molting and the color of the feathers changing... Adult males in spring and early summer are bright yellow with black forehead, black wings with white markings, and white patches both above and beneath the tail.
Adult females are duller yellow beneath, olive above.www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/American_Goldfinch/overview
