Had a great trip to Waterton Lakes National Park this afternoon. These are a golden-mantled ground squirrel yellow-pine chipmunk and trumpeter swans. (The swans are the white ones. ) I'll maybe post a couple of scenery photos tomorrow. Long day.

Smaller than squirrels?
Usually much smaller, but here in Florida, our squirrels and deer are much smaller than I was used to in the frigid north. Guess they don't have to fatten up for winter - but that doesn't tell me why they are also smaller in stature.
(These guys look like they could use Weight Watchers - wow)
As usual, Clive, I am in awe of your photos. Looking forward to the scenery photos.

Look forward to seeing the landscapes! I'll post some later. Was a poor day for scenery photos as it was cloudy, but I took photos of forest renewal after a major fire here in 2017.

"Chipmunks are usually about 10 inches long, while ground squirrels range from 6 inches to 12 inches. The most telltale difference between the two is the presence of stripes on their heads, or lack thereof" No wonder these guys were so fat - I'm used to chipmunks and I have to admit, I never knew these two were different species. I just thought they were different names used for the same animal The things I learn here__________________Got a chipmunk for you: photos: personalWe had this little pond with a waterfall built in our backyard. The cat and the chipmunks liked it. And, yes, that is a gargoyle - guess he was a water gargoyle???

These are a golden-mantled ground squirrel yellow-pine chipmunkMy first thought was that they are plump chipmunks too. Thanks for the clarification, Clive. Great shots!

Green River Lake Visitor Center/Nature Center, a wonderful place to visit, has an outside enclosure, enclosed from outside view but otherwise open for the critters to come and go, that is viewed from inside the Visitor Center through a one-way glass. --- gosh I hope that made sense ---
They have it fixed really nice, with little man-made creek, waterfalls, etc.
There are every type of bird feeder imaginable.
They have this one Chipmunk on the payroll that is a One-Chipmunk entertainment committee; he really puts on a show.
If you are ever fortunate enough to go there and see this little guy, you will never forget him.
