This proves one must explore all aspects of a tool. Of course it helps to know where the items can be found and how to change them

Is there a way to make the Crop Tool Grid Overlay darker? Peter, As fotofrank already explained, you cannot make it darker. I second his suggestion. -- photoshopelementsandmore.com/post/105378It’s the most effective (and less cumbersome) way to address the Grid Overlay issue you are encountering. Changing the color (and even the Opacity) of the Shield, i.e., of the cropped area surrounding the image, does help with the Grid Overlay visibility. I do this all the time. Give it a chance!

fotofrank, I didn't really understand the value in using the Shield as you suggested until I was horizontally centering this object today. With all the different tones of grayscale, and only grayscale, it was difficult to eyeball equal spacing on the left and right sides of the object. Clearly the Shield makes it easier! Thanks. Sometimes it takes a while for things to sink in.

I typically count the squares on each side of the image I'm centering
Do the later versions of Elements have this cropping option = Place the center of the Crop indicator on the center of whatever you want centered and then drag each side to suit ?
This would beat counting squares.
I am fairly certain that the outlines can be made any color.
This is a screenshot of GIMP; the Rectangular Selection Tool has all the same options.
