Well done Jim and nice use of the French Script texture too. It’s good to get out of our comfort zone sometimes. We might even surprise ourselves with our results. Thank you for joining in on the fun. You are welcome, Lillias. I enjoy a doable challenge but the last couple of CE Challenges have been a bit like chewing on nails for me. Helps keep my brain functions active though.

I misread the challenge. This is not an original mask - it's from my stash and I don't know who made it. The layout is new. However, this mask is an example of one of my favorite types of masks - using a subtle frame -- so I am posting it for inspiration while you design your masks. Photo: cats4jan

So the challenge is to create your own mask and clip an image to it. I look forward to seeing your contributions to the challenge. Thanks Lillias and to those who have submitted. My brain ceases to work when I see these techniques. Something I need to learn. Clive

Thanks Lillias and to those who have submitted. My brain ceases up when I see these techniques. Something I need to learn. Would love to have you join us Clive. I’m sure you could try the second example which is really simple. For that one all you need is an image and a soft black brush. After clipping the image to your mask you can move or resize either of them to suit and you are done...

Today's effort. I used Kyle's Real WC brush....Massive Random. I'm sorry I didn't think to save the mask as I actually like this one. What a beautiful photo you have used for this one Helen. Nice mask too. If you have saved your layers you could actually go back in and get your mask and save it to use again!

hmca said "Today's effort. I used Kyle's Real WC brush." I like the edges here and see uses for this. Your sample-edge-mask result suits your photo. Rustic, outdoorsy. Might look good with wildlife...maybe a bear or elk, eh? It is going to snow for 3 or 4 days next week (and be absurdly cold for Nov), so I'll be looking for stuff to do.

so I'll be looking for stuff to do. Hope you'll give it a try, Clive. I love how a mask lets the image blend into the background. Note in Lillias' directions she points out how you can use the transform tool to resize both your mask and photo till you are pleased with the results.

Realize that after you create your mask and clip it to your photo, if there are parts of the photo you want to see, just work on the mask layer after clipping. While you brush on your mask, you will instantly see the effect on your photo as more parts of the photo appears.
After I clip my photo and mask, I always end up working on the mask - even if it’s only to move or resize it.
That is the real secret of masks. The endless ability to manipulate it.

Tried lowering the word 'thanksgiving' so more would show, but then it just looked like the same old same old - word with photo clipped to it instead of one integrated mask. In looking at the original inspiration, my mask probably would've worked better with a script font like the Christmas one used in the example - and it would've looked better if the edge where the mask and text meet was less solid - again, like the example Technique is cool, just needs a little more work.Photo from my stash - don't know who (or is it whom) to credit Thanksgiving mask by me Card template by Digital Scrapper

and it would've looked better if the edge where the mask and text meet was less solid - again, like the example Yes, I think that's the secret to this kind of mask Janice. I'm wondering if in this particular instance it might have been better if you had placed your text at the top of the mask rather than the bottom ! Makes a lovely card.
