With bottom image layer visible, click and hold then drag next image in photobin on top I did not do something right. I clicked and dragged (or so I thought that is what I was doing) the 2nd thru 5th image onto the top of the first image, doing all of this in the photo bin as you explained. I see now the images in the photo bin reversed in order. Also I am "guessing" each time I did that I should have gotten a new layer which I did not get. Any ideas what I did wrong?? Charles, You need to drag the images (2nd through 5th) from the Photo Bin to the working space above. The problem is that you did it all in the Photo Bin. Elements needs to have those images in the working space. Then, it will automatically create the layers.

You know....., this got me to thinking.....; one of our cameras, not sure which one, has the ability to take multiple exposures in a single frame; seeing as the sky is black as pitch, I am wondering how it would turn out to just set the remote timer to fire every few seconds or minutes, capturing it all in a single frame.
If it worked, it would sure save a lot of editing. BuckSkin, I just went back and re-read your post..... I do not own any camera that will take multiple shots all within the same frame as you are suggesting here. Sorry I missed this yesterday!

Open all 5 images in PSE expert Unlock image on the bottom Click on Photobin if not visible With bottom image layer visible, click and hold then drag next image in photobin on top Follow suite with remaining images in photobin Your layer stack on right should resemble the screen shot minus the merged top layer On the top four layers change the blend mode to "Lighten"
Highlight all 5 layers, depress and hold shift, control, alt then depress the 'letter "e" to make a new layer from the original 5
I am gaining on this. How do I unlock image on bottom? Why do I need to do this? I do now have the extra layers on the right side. Thank you for this tip Sepiana!!! At what point do I get the merged top layer? Peter you never told me to do any erasing of the black area above the previous moon shots as I had to do back in 2012 I did do the change the top layer to "Lighten" but I did not see any change happen I did do the "Highlight all 5 layers, depress and hold shift, control, alt then depress the letter "e" to make a new layer from the original 5" and I did get a new layer but not sure what that did for me.

I am gaining on this. How do I unlock image on bottom? Why do I need to do this? On the extreme right of the layer indicator there a box - click it. It's required whenever there are changes to the background layer
I do now have the extra layers on the right side. Thank you for this tip Sepiana!!!
At what point do I get the merged top layer? Peter you never told me to do any erasing of the black area above the previous moon shots as I had to do back in 2012 Correct, the benefit of using the lighten blend mode is no masking or erasing. You need to change the blend mode on all 4 of the single moon layers
I did do the change the top layer to "Lighten" but I did not see any change happen Your top layer was blank, blend mode needs to be changed on moon layers
I did do the "Highlight all 5 layers, depress and hold shift, control, alt then depress the letter "e" to make a new layer from the original 5" and I did get a new layer but not sure what that did for me.
After you have changed the blend mode of the top 4 moon layers you will highlight all 5 moon layers you need to depress and hold the keys (shift, control, & alt) ... while those 3 keys are depressed click on the letter "e"

How do I unlock image on bottom? There is more than one way to unlock the Background layer. Go to Layer > New > Layer from Background. ORDouble-click on the Background layer. ORRight-click on the Background layer > Select "Layer from Background" in the drop-down menu. I did do the "Highlight all 5 layers, depress and hold shift, control, alt then depress the letter "e" to make a new layer from the original 5" and I did get a new layer but not sure what that did for me. When you use this shortcut -- Shift-Alt-Ctrl-E -- you are telling Elements to run the Stamp Visible command. This command creates a Stamp Visible layer (a Composite layer). This layer is a combination of all your visible layers. Elements will combine the contents of those layers into a new layer at the top of the stack. The advantage of creating a Composite layer is that you can work on this layer while leaving the other layers untouched. In this way, you can go back to them if you need to. There is no need to highlight all the layers you want to be included in the Composite layer. Just highlight the top layer. Elements knows what to do.

Peter, Using your process, at what point do all 5 moons appear in my image?? They will appear one by one as you change lighten blend mode until the top 4 layers have been changed.
After I'm successful in explaining this method you will be able to accomplish in just a few minutes. Maybe I should have offered a Zoom session which might have made it easier for us.

Zoom & WebEx are applications that enable interactive (voice and video) communications - think video phone call. I use them often to help club members with photo editing because both coach and participants are able to share screens in order to visually demonstrate techniques.

I feel I owe Peter and the entire forum an apology as my attitude was not where it belonged in my remark "How was I to know that" I am sorry and want to make amends for that remark. How was Peter to know what I know or do not know about Photoshop Elements?? Peter and the entire forum I am sorry.

I noticed that Inspeqtor and thought it was out of character for you. I think anyone who has been frustrated trying to work out something can understand where it came from. Not to worry.

Hi Charles - as Helen state you have no reason to apologize.
I think you need to break this project down into smaller segments based on your knowledge of Element. Please forget what you think you have done in the past to get this to work as I will not be having you erase anything.
I would suggest the you open any two of your moon images.
Place the two images as layers in one of the image. You have already shown you can do this.
On the top layer change the blend mode to Screen - you should now see both of the moon on screen.
When you are comfortable with this process add your third, fourth and fifth image.
Hope this helps

Frank,
I thank you for your words of wisdom, that does mean a lot to me, same as what Helen said. I am trying your suggestion now, but when I put in the two images (or 5 images) into PSE at this point I still only have one layer. What do I do to get more layers at this point? I also have tried what Sepiana suggested to unlock the bottom layer but doing that also does not add another layer.
