You can do a traditional triptych, or you can try something new -I eye-balled the photo to see where framing would work, - made three solid rectangles and tilted them - then merged them into one layer - clipped the photo to the rectangles to get a better look, click on photo and choose full resolution on imgbb photo: cats4jan

Excellent choice of photo, the framing method you used works perfectly. I learn something new and interesting every time you share your pages and methods. Big thank you.

Thanks, Jacki. I like to try new things. Don’t forget to visit scrapbooking sites like Just Art and Digital Scrapper for ideas. When you use another’s design to create your page, it’s called “scraplifting”. I just love that term.

Gave the multi-photo block idea another try - the basic design is from an old template Again, it looks better at full resolution at imgbb photo and template: cats4jan

I agree with Lillias.....and the masterful layout. I like the way the tree balances the page and the perfect placement of the text.

I'm not doing something right, I gave borders to my shapes, but when the image is clipped to the shapes I lose all the borders, and because they are merged I can't add individual strokes after the clipping. Are you adding the borders by using the 'stroke inside' fx?

I merged the photo and template layers after I was sure I liked the placement. I then applied the layer style. I know that a lot of templates come with photo blocks that have strokes which are still showing after you clip a photo to the block, but I have not been able to duplicate that. I may have known how to do that in the past, but I no longer know how.
If you plan on merging those two layers and are leery of doing something so permanent, duplicate the layers before merging and turn off the duplicates. That way you can always go back to those duplicates and redo.

I'm not doing something right, I gave borders to my shapes, but when the image is clipped to the shapes I lose all the borders, and because they are merged I can't add individual strokes after the clipping. Try this . . . 1. Create the shape. 2. Clip your image to the shape. 3. Ctrl-Click on the shape thumbnail (not on the layer name) to load it as a selection. (You will see marching ants around the shape.) 4. Create a new blank layer above the image layer. 5. Apply a stroke -- Edit > Stroke (Outline) Selection. For further editing flexibility, don't merge the layers; create a Composite layer instead. The advantage of creating a Composite layer is that you can work on this layer while leaving the other layers untouched. In this way, you can go back to them if you need to.

Janice I like the idea of the multi frames within one original photo...what you did. Nice effect. Clive

Found where I was going wrong, if only I had read the words 'merge shapes' and understood that was actually a clue, I wouldn't have wasted so much time trying to figure this out!!\ Thanks Janice and Sepiana for your kind help.

Some Anna Aspnes backgrounds and overlays. Coneflower photo is my own. That 'merge shapes' command is very tricky, I saw it and had a eureka moment, then I couldn't get it to appear again, still not sure what I did. I also discovered that by lowering the opacity of the shape areas, I could place them over sections of the photo that I wanted, hope I remember this next time I try this out.

Jacki, that really turned out great. So pretty.
Your idea of lower opacity in order to figure out just where the template would look best, is brilliant.
Sepiana, keeping your framing on its own layer is always a smart option. I often do that.

Today's reworking of an older layout - seems I used that photo template more than a few times. I have been reworking old layouts or using photos from them because I have few new photos to work with. Haven't been on a vacation in three years. The flower is a shape clipped to a part of the photo in the upper left, outline added. Clipping shapes to colorful areas of a photo can lend itself to some nice elements for your pages, and you know it will coordinate, because those colors are already in your layout. Inner Glow and Shadow layer styles added to center plain paper. In order to avoid having it show across the top or bottom, extend the paper beyond the framework of your layout. I don't usually want a layer style across the top or bottom - just want to accentuate the sides. I tried tilting that strip with the photo, but it didn't look good, so went back to straight on. In the past, so many of my pages had great amounts of tilting -- looks like I was drinking heavily in those days...photo and template: cats4jan
