I used explosion brushes for this one...image from Pexels. I think getting the right brushes for this effect is essential...not sure that these explosion brushes are right!

That's an interesting take on this tut, Lillias. I think the smoke brushes work well with her hair.

I still don't think I'm 'getting' this method, but thought I'd post what I created; Main image from Pexels and background from Magnolia Textures (Ancient Empires).

Trying a flower - a dandelion from Unsplash . I used one of Kyle's spatter brushes and used a sky replacement sky as the background. Went a bit wild with the brush adding some extra spatter on a new layer using hue jitter to vary the colours sampled from the original. Not quite the result I intended. Tony

Some great images posted ... Tony your dandelion image works great. On my part, here is another attempt using scatter brushes, drop shadows and little motion blur.
