"When you're not using your computer, Windows 10 will automatically download those updates, install them, and restart your computer. You can also schedule that restart for a convenient time." Julie, the above is a quote from the article Sepiana found. So a download should not start while you are in the middle of using your laptop. Rita This assumes the laptop/tablet is booted up, I presume? What happens if it hasn't been booted up for several days until I've arrived at, say Computer Club, where I would boot up but then be waiting for further instructions or whatever? Thanks

From what I have read, there won't be service pack releases for Windows 10. Thanks I hadn't read that. However, I'll still wait about 6 months before deciding to download/install Win 10 J

From what I have read, there won't be service pack releases for Windows 10. Now that you mention it, that rings a bell with me and I remember reading that somewhere a while ago. The service packs will now be part of the auto updates. But I will still wait about 9 months before upgrading so that hopefully any initial "unforeseen" bugs are fixed. And I still can't find anywhere if pse is Win10 ready or if pse14 will run on Win10. It should, but who knows??? I'd like to see Adobe saying it is Win10 ready before I upgrade. The last thing I want is to have any applications or drivers have a major heart attack when I try to run them on Win10. Waiting until about March 2016 should reduce that possibility to or very close to zero

I agree that those are reasons not to hurry. As stated in a previous discussion, I have just migrated to a new computer from Win 7 to Win 8.1. My drives were unhurt and I had kept the installation media, serial numbers and passwords. Reinstalling everything has been a long process, especially as I had to get acquainted with the Win 8.1 interface. Needless to say, I have cursed the Win 'update' to a high degree!!! The result is that I had to test and learn a lot in the process. Well, I have now a very clean and neat setup and organization (ignoring totally the touchscreen idea). The system is more responsive and finally, I would not go back to Win 7. So, I have carefully read the 9 reasons not to hurry to jump to Win 10. Most of them are totally irrelevant for me, but I understand they may be important to you. The only hardware concern, after the Microsoft analysis of my setup was the Spyder calibration: Datacolor provided an attractive update solution, so I don't expect problems now. For the software, I really think that I won't have bad surprises; anyway I am sure I'll know without waiting for six months. The real question is the last one: " You don’t need the pain of early adoption". That alone is a compelling reason. I have a satisfying OS now, with a very clean setup. I don't feel the new features are necessary, only a possible increase in speed and safety. On the other hand, the best time for an OS change is now that I still have all those installation and setup tasks in my mind... To be followed...

I will be upgrading to Windows 10 but definitely not before 6 months and it will be closer to the end of the 12 months free period. I'll wait for all the software providers of the applications that I run to update to Windows 10. I'll be disappointed if they haven't all done so in 9-12 months. Then I'll upgrade to Windows 10, do the initial installation, apply all the Windows updates to that point in time and everything should then work without any problems.
Everything is working really well at the moment so there is no urgency for me to upgrade right now.

I thank everyone for contributing to this thread. I am waiting to go to windows 10 because if there is a big pile i tend to fall into it. So that being said while everything is fine and dandy with my computer i surely am not gonna throw anything at it.

I did the upgrade last night on my Win 8.1 laptop and it went without issue. I'm still getting used to it but so far I like what I see.

I guess the wrong question to ask here. I guess I need to find a Microsoft place to find the answer.
Thanks

Hi Tina,
I am sorry you haven't got an answer to your question. Maybe most of our members have not upgraded to Windows 10. If you need an answer quickly, you may want to post in the Windows 10 forums.

I have just made the leap and upgraded to Win10 this morning - so far so good. I will advise of any issues encountered.
