Short version of the story. A bunch of local photographers/birders had an outing in the valley yesterday that ended with a campfire. A great day. After some planning and preparation that started 3 weeks ago, two of us set up a snowy owl decoy before the others arrived. Just the two of use knew the scheme. The fake owl was set up where people in our group would eventually see it. The decoy took some serious work as I could only buy a great-horned owl decoy and had to paint it. The ears of the GHO had to be cut off and the eyes were weird and had to be made somewhat better with white caulking. Anyway, we pulled it off and there was much excitement about the owl that should not be in the valley. ("OMG! A snowy in the river bottom!!") They fell for it hard and photos were taken at a distance before someone figured it was fake. Had some laughs.

This looks amazingly like a scrapbook page. You don't have to get all fru-fru to digitally scrapbook an event. Great job. I especially like the way you stacked the photos and added a very subtle outline and shadow layer style. Only suggestion I would have to make it more scrapbook-y is to change the color of the background. fru-fru -- adding lots of ribbons and bows and doodads to a page
I guess, technically, this would be called a collage, but this is how I started so I have hope for you...

fru-fru -- adding lots of ribbons and bows and doodads to a page Thanks Janice! HA HA! I figured what fru fru was. That sounds like a New Year's challenge for you, Clive. I know you could do it! Yeah, well, girls ... maybe. I could change the background pretty fast .. have the PSD file. Under advisement. I did use the white on purpose just so the photos would stand out.

I agree - I noticed how well the white made the photos stand out, but … a digital scrapper just can’t think in white - it’s against our nature

I did use the white on purpose just so the photos would stand out. Wow! You really put a lot of time and effort into that, but it looks like it was worth it to give everyone a good laugh. I agree and like that the white background makes the images stand out. Of course I don't have the Scrapper gene in my DNA either. Real nice, Clive.

a digital scrapper just can’t think in white - it’s against our nature HA HA! As an ex-photo-supplier to ad agencies and after reading about web design, white is a beautiful thing in graphic design. If I have time later I might revisit the page. If not tonight, then never. I am (hopefully) going on a bird photo mission in the morning and last time I was at the pond, I took way too many photos. Jim and I have similar genes. Thanks all!

If not tonight, then never. Sometimes you are just satisfied with the work and revisiting it is not any fun. And sometimes you are just so dissatisfied with the work, you can't face working on it any longer. Been there in both cases...

Okay, so the background has been change slightly: pale blue; slightly textured and then blurred; beveled edge; and moved the date text. It's good and whether or not it's an improvement is highly subjective. I thought of a faded "tree branch" background but decided to leave it alone.

You are just an all-around good sport, Clive.....and a prankster it seems. Thank you Helen. I am still a kid at heart. Not sure of the genesis, but I've always liked to have fun. Far too much seriousness and trouble in the world. I recall in ca 1960, when my father worked at an oil industry manufacturing company. Someone found a dead June bug ... they are huge. He put it in a jar and made a sign for it: CESSCO Entomology Department. Perhaps that is from where I got the "jokester" trait.

It seems both colors work well, but I like the way the blue softens the overall look. You know, it is all so subjective. I always tell people who are delving into this hobby that there is no right or wrong and the only person you need to please is yourself. And, trying something new can be such fun. My first work was soft edged straight on photos on a white background - with a little descriptive text thrown in. You are a step ahead of me with your inventive photo placement. When I got further into digital scrapbooking, a hobby was born. Over 15 years later, I still want to encourage people to give it a try - maybe find their new hobby - like I did. _________________________ A flash from the past - it's a poor photo of a photo - taken in a not so bright room - it's supposed to be a white background I made a scrapbook for each kid of our first trip to Europe. This was heavy in the days of home printing on a great Epson photo printer - experimenting with all types of paper... and fooling with settings. Too bad I don't have the original psd of this, but this photo shows you how my design style has changed over the years. I never thought I'd get to Europe, and with two wonderful kids in tow (and, of course, their father) - ...my life has been so blessed.
