Question:When I draw a shape with the Custom Shape tool, the shape gets automatically filled with a solid color (the Foreground color). Is it possible to draw a shape which will be just the outline of it? Not filled with color? Answer:Yes, it is possible but you need to give Elements a helping hand. Just a little workaround! 1. Draw the shape. 2. Right-click on the shape layer and select "Simplify Layer". 3. Ctrl/Cmmd-click on the shape layer thumbnail (not on the layer name). This will load the shape as a selection; you will see marching ants around it. 4. Create a new layer. 5. Go to Edit > Stroke (Outline) Selection. Enter the Color and Width of your choice for the stroke. Location = Inside. 6. Select > Deselect (Ctrl/Cmmd-D). 7. Hide the shape layer. VoilĂ ! You got a shape outline.
NOTE The advantage of having the stroke on its own layer is that it gives you more flexibility in editing the shape outline. You can change its color, width; apply a layer style, texture, gradient, etc.
