My theme for the week is "hidden". Today my walk followed the course of a London tributary of the Thames, from its source until it finally joined the Thames - and I never saw a single drop of water! The Effra is just one of several hidden rivers which only finally appear as they become part of the Thames itself. The only indication of the Effra's existence are these plaques which appear in the pavements/sidewalks where the river flows underneath roads. They are fun to seek out as you go. i.ibb.co/sF1FmpS/E1.jpgSome roads use the river's name, as do some pubs along the way. i.ibb.co/Z2Crp3P/E2.jpgMy hopes of finally seeing the Effra for real were cruelly dashed. The powers that be have for months been working on this elaborate framework for the Effra/Thames union. It is still unfinished, and dry as a bone. The crystalline waters of the Effra are no doubt diverted into some sewer elsewhere. Alas, the poor old Effra remains hidden..... i.ibb.co/hf0hRZ4/E3.jpgBrenda

A floral hanging basket, taken on today's walk, and before I went into Wetherspoon's for some liquid refreshment. i.ibb.co/yYkssGH/MHB.jpgMatthew

Cheerful graffiti with a happy message to lift the spirits of the passer-by along the Regent's Canal towpath. i.ibb.co/j5vRyXH/00G1.jpgBrenda

Saw this on my walk through south London today. Is it graffiti, or is it art? It certainly carries a message. i.ibb.co/KzKKnzS/G1.jpgMatthew
