I took this photograph a couple of days ago; we at first thought it was some kind of wild Orchid, perhaps Pyramid Orchid? Can anyone identify it? It is quite a small plant on a single stem and the head is about three inches in height - you have to get close up to see the beautiful markings on the individual flowers.

The Foxglove is my favorite wild flower and seems to like to grow in woodland and shady spots. Look but don't touch - it is poisonous!

Over the past few years, we have thankfully become more considerate for wildlife in our agricultural practices and have ceased wholesale mowing of field edges and road verges. Now we are seeing a reappearance of meadows and meadow flowers - buttercups and daisies, etc. Bees and butterflies are set to benefit from this abundance of flowers.
In the second shot a solitary water lily flower did its best to hide from me, but without success.

Walking in the Norfolk countryside, I found some modern technology in a rural setting. These wind turbines were doing their work in the midst a field of barley - an incongruous partnership!

We have just returned from a four-day break in Norfolk. Here are two examples of the resort's use of technology for the entertainment of guests.

My "J" is for Joyce Salter, whose statue stands with those of her parents on the Thames Path in Bermondsey. Doctor Salter and his wife worked tirelessly to alleviate the desperate poverty of the people of Bermondsey in the early twentieth century. They lived amongst the people they served in this deprived area of the East End. Fate did not reward their generosity - they were inconsolable when their young daughter Joyce died at the age of 9 of Scarlet Fever. Nevertheless they continued with their work in Bermondsey. Just one of their many achievements was to plant a thousand trees to improve the air quality in the district. I always pay silent tribute to this brave and selfless family and to my mind, Joyce has to be the most poignant of all the "J"s.
Incidentally, this is the second version of the Salter family memorial. The former statues were all stolen several years ago. A fund was set up and the money slowly raised to replace the statues and install CCTV to protect them. It shows just how despicable, or how noble, we humans can be.

A local War Memorial pays tribute to those from the borough who died in the 1914-18 war. Shamefully, there has been a problem lately - people have been stealing the bronze plaques with the names of the dead, and the paving stones surrounding the monument have also disappeared. The expense of replacement is as nothing to the selfish act of despoiling a monument for personal gain - how low can one get?

Our local village pond. It is divided by a causeway into two bodies of water.

Hello,
We have finally moved from The Village, having just returned home from holiday.
I am Dennis and my wife is Brenda. We enjoy participating in the weekly photo theme, which takes place under the efficient and friendly supervision of Sepiana, who always provides such intriguing subjects. I use Elements 10 and Lightroom 5. My camera is a Canon 70D and Brenda's is a more modest Panasonic Lumix suitable for carrying in a pocket. Our hobbies are travelling whenever we can, while individual hobbies are, for me, lawn bowls and Brenda enjoys walking, 10-15 mile day walks usually. Previously, we were both involved with amateur movie production and gained some honours in national and international competitions.
One small suggestion I would like to make with regard to the individual identity icons (avatars) for contributors: could these possibly include (with that person's permission, of course) their country of origin or residence? In photo theme in particular, it is interesting to know which part of the world the photos are coming from. In our case, Surrey, England
