Another way to move the catalog, without PSE open, is to drag and drop. You want to move the entire contents of the catalog folder, not just the catalog as the folder contains your thumbnail cached and other critical info. Make sure all that was moved. I have never used the move catalog command in PSE.

I am basically lazy and when I started with digital in the late 90s just didn't have the experience. When the light bulb finally lit it was too late for me. I am better now but with well over 100K in pics etc. there is a lot of trash left behind.
I started going through the folders last night. As I finish a folder I put the pictures into a file withing that folder called "Duplicates", easy to start up again where I stopped, just look for the last folder with the "Duplicates" in it.
This is a good TV project.
My only positive is that I have multiple catalogs so it isn't quite an overwhelming task.
I was finally able to pay for the full version, I think their website had problems but couldn't find a number to call. Mindgems uses a 3rd party for payment.

Ont thing I discovered is that if I have 5 pics that are the "same" I can view all 5 at once. Blew me away. Can't wait to get the full version but am having problems paying for it. My hot spot has been giving me problems so I may need to wait until I have a real connection.

If there is a thread floating around about duplicates I apologize, search decided not to work for me today Over the years I have(like all of us) created a lot of duplicates, both pictures and folders(docs, xls etc). I have played around on and off with progrms tht could find duplicates, never very succesfull. Today, I decided to try it again and stumbled across Mindgems, Fast Duplicate Finder. This did a very good job and I cleaned up a lot of duplicate files but it didn't do pictures very well. This is a free product. I went back to the Mindgems website and found Visually Similarity Duplicate Image Finder. It did a great job on my test database of 200 pics. The free download would only find 10 duplicates but the full version will do the entire database($24.95). The neat part about both these products is that you can take what it finds as duplicates and save it in a file rather than delete your duplicates. Of course, you could delete all your duplicates but I am not that brave yet. The problem is if I remove the duplicates from my PSE data I will have a lot of disconnected files. That is a minor problem as PSE has a way to find those files. PSE also has a visual search that works but it is slow, very slow. The Mindgems products are very fast and much easier to use. The only downside I see currently is needing to go back to PSE and delete the disconnected entries. I still have a few questions that I sent to Mindgems about how it does some things but in general am very pleased with the product. I have a bad/good/sloppy habit of making a lot of copies as I edit a picture so I am likely to have 20 copies of the same picture but only really need the first and last. I plan to use Mindgems to clean up this self-created situation. I have no association with Mindgems and strongly recommend you take a look at the products. If you know of any other products similar to this please let the forum know. www.mindgems.com is the website.

Jeffrey,
You have had a bit of luck in this move of data. The preferred(and safe) way is to do a backup(always a good idea) onto an EHD(external hard drive) and then a restore to the new computer. I never caught you had a new computer, sorry about that. Would have been a different answer.
The backup and restore I am referencing is found under File in Organizer. This makes a copy of your catalog and all your pictures.

Same with me. I am always in media, all my pics are there and this was the first time I went to Places and Events, which Adobe has populated based on I don't know what considering all I have are pdf's of recipes.

What would the advantage be to a 64 bit version over a 32 bit version?

Let's get some terminology sorted out. Catalog is not an old term. All releases of PSE have a catalog. A catalog does not contain your pictures, the catalog has pointers to where the pictures are located on you disk. When you installed PSE14 your previous catalog should have been converted to PSE14 and your PSE6 catalog renamed.
You are probably your missing your catalog all you need to do is find it and point PSE to it. The name should be catalog.pse14db. Once you locate it go to File/Manage Catalogs within PSE and using Custom Location point PSE to where you catalog is located.
If you need additional help please let us know.

I feel it is a bad file and maybe moving the tiffs manually will either resolve the issue or you will discover which file(s) are bad. I don't feel 14 is much different than 11 in the file manipulation area so you should get in the swing of things fast. Let us know what you discover on your journey.

All my pictures are in media. For the first time(you prompted me to to look) I clicked on People, Places and Events. However PSE figured out how to put things there makes no sense to me. I have nothing in People, Places and Events have things listed but no names assigned to them. PPE contains the same files as I have in media, not different ones. You will need to do some research as to how PSE populates PPE but I would just use the Media option and not bother with the rest of them.
The catalog I looked at has all my recipes in it so PSE is very confused assigning them to Places and Events. I can see a use for this, kind of a replacement for album, maybe even some tagging. I'll look into this more sometime but for me it is a non-issue.

Yes, it did change and is difficult to control. I generally use my up/down arrows instead.
I do like that it tells me where I am in my scrolling but the control issue is a major problem.

A while ago I asked if you had done a repair/ophtimze on your catalog. I don't see an answer to that. Did you do the repair/optimize.
Regarding your backup tiffs: if you display only tiffs, you can do a ctrl-a and select them. At this point uncatalog the tiffs and reimport them.
I would try the repair first though.

You should be OK doing this. Specify a new location so that the pics don't duplicate.
If you decide to go the other route of a new catalog and reloading your pics make sure you write your tags to the files so you at least have the tags that go with the pics. You will lose all your tagging structure and need to recreate it.

Yes you should so everything is showing again. Have you done a repair/optimize of your catalog(whether it needs it or not). This sometimes clears up random problems.
