My wife's mother passed away a day and a half ago. She needs a head shot for the obit, so this is kind of a rush job. The image below is the one she really wants to use, but as you can see isolating the head from the background will be challenging! Any sort of quick&dirty extraction will be greatly appreciated.

Condolences Tom. I am sure others can do better. More or less removed background, removed blems, reduced noise, tweaked edges.

Thanks Clive. Nicely done; I think that will work fine.

You are welcome. Most obit photos are quite small. It was also lightened. As shown here it looks a bit soft but will not be if printed/posted quite small. Take care Clive

Well I came on to post my attempt but after seeing Clive's there is no reason to do that! I think he has done a beautiful job!

Thank you Frank. That is a very well done headshot! Did you use PSE to accomplish that?

Tom, the short answer is no I did not. It was done with Photoshop CC and portrait pro studio.

Thanks for that Frank. It sure is a glamorous result! To my eye, the only additional processing would be some sort of fog/haze removal.
I don't really know what I am doing with this sort of image, but everything I came up with had a garish look to it.

Thanks for that Frank; I do like the reduced 'haze'. I was actually wondering if a offering a B&W might be more useful for the purpose, but since it has to be presented to the mortician tomorrow, so it is probably too late for this one.
