I've already posted photos of this (and another) sharp-shinned hawk. It (or others) have been somewhat annoying so I've removed all of the song-bird feeders so hopefully the house sparrows will go somewhere else to feed and the hawk(s) will move away. They have stayed far beyond their welcome. We saw it on our yard three times one day, once with a sparrow kill. Not seen a house finch or blue jay for one week or so. Anyway ... I was doing some work in the front yard yesterday and here it was sitting on the fence checking for small birds to eat. I thought it was going to fly so started shooting in burst mode when a sparrow flew by into the mugho pine. The 10-photo GIF shows the hawk tracking the incoming sparrow.

Just WOW...between that beak and those talons I don't imagine anything it catches has much chance...

Thanks. BTW, this is a very small hawk. Like most raptors what you see is mainly feathers. Their actual bodies are only half (or less) the width and length of what you see. Adult SS hawks only weigh a 100 to 200 grams. This hawk would measure 12 inches from head top to tip of the tail.
