The mat overwhelms the image. If I'm going to mat I need to make it smaller.

I actually like both presentations. All it lacks is the artists signature scrawled across the bottom corner somewhere Helen...'just sayin'.
Am I right in thinking this Paint Studio doesn't work in PSE!

Helen, the mat may be a little too large, but it may be the outside frame is too small with the mat. And, I think it’s the strong difference in color between photo and mat that is giving you pause. A soft tan might work. And try to find a texture to add to the mat to give it more of a cardboard feeling.

Mat for sure ...but not this one.
Definitely smaller, perhaps half as wide.
Years ago I took watercolor classes during two winters. Good times. Instructor Bob insisted on mats for paintings. All of the framed prints in our home have mats except the full-wrap canvasses.
Mats good. 👍☺

Wanted to try this on a busy image. Mat still might not be right. I need to spend some time on either modifying her action or come up with a different easy way to mat.
