In this video, Top Ten #8, Contiguous, is one I've used many times and find It's most useful if I want to remove the background in one go, especially if you want to remove background that's showing though tress.
I have chosen this image as an example of how I've got best results when using contiguous.
And if you check contiguous as video shows will only sample the sky area that's trap by treelines as image 1 shows.
When contiguous is unchecked magic tool will then sample based on the tolerance set, as a quick reference I set 44% as image 2 shows
By adding a layer mask and with brush tool, setting foreground white I can now brush in the areas we want to keep as image 3 shows.
