Nice conversion, Pete. I like your idea of blurring the background. Thanks for addressing the crop question and sharing why you chose the 4x3 ratio.

did a little dodging to clean the dirty ice. Good. I understand the cause of the off-white ice, but felt it could be bluer and whiter. Nice job Karen.

PeteB - Great idea to convert to B&W. I really like your treatment of this photograph.

Not finding this an easy one I agree, Lillias. But I am pleased to see the different approaches members have taken so far. Thanks for sharing your screenshots from Affinity. The warmer tones seem to suggest the ice may soon be melting away.

So now for a fun edit.... I added poster edges to my high key image. Used Topaz Impression Degas Dancers 2. Added a texture....subtle texture...and ran the MT mat action. Image added using Cubeupload. u.cubeupload.com/HMCA/HighKeyMinimalistpai.jpg

Here's my basic edit. I finished it a few days ago, but held off posting it because I wasn't pleased with it, so I just revisited it and reprocessed it, with a totally different result. My steps: First, because it was a PNG, it wouldn't open with Adobe Camera Raw, so I opened it in Photoshop to crop it (when I use Camera Raw as a Filter in PS, the crop tool is not there!), then opened it in the Camera Raw Filter. I tweaked the sliders as shown in the second image.

PNG, it wouldn't open with Adobe Camera Raw I am a little confused by this comment, Vicki. Did you miss the link to the dng file under the preview image? A dng is Adobe's version of a RAW file . Regardless, I'm glad you didn't give up on your edit and gave it another try. The contrast in your image has given the ice on the tree a sense of depth.

Helen, I tried it both ways...clicking on the image and clicking on the link. The image gave me a .png; the link gave me a .jpg. While I don't use them often (because they miss a few settings within the actual file that the camera manufacturer puts in there), I would have loved to have had a .dng to work on! I thought, of the two, the png would be a better choice for a base image.
Thanks for your comment. I need to try a creative edit next!

I can't help but think that I didn't leave enough space under the preview picture when posting the link, Vicki. I wonder if you might have missed it.
I am posting the link again for you to try. Hopefully this will work. Download from top left corner. Hope you will find time to share your creative edit. It's always fun to see where people take an image.

Tried it again, using both links in your most recent post. The following screenshots show my options when downloading them:
After clicking on the link, my only way to download is to right click on the image that shows up...

So it doesn't open up this screen for you VickiD?
So sorry, I have no idea why it isn't working. Thanks for trying.

Thanks, fotofrank. I understand it has worked for the others who participated in this challenge but for some reason this particular file is not working for Vicki. She has participated in the RAW challenges in the past and never had a problem; so one of those computer gremlins must be at work here.

Just a reminder this challenge ends on Thursday.
I am in need of a picture for the next RAW Challenge which will be posted on April 15th. If you have an image you would like to share please PM me and we'll work out the details. While I always welcome people new to the challenge, I am also happy to receive an image from a member who has shared before. Hope you'll consider submitting a picture.
