Which is the best way to post an animated GIF? I used to use Pixentral but the site seems to be down again, and the animated GIFs I've already uploaded here are no longer available to view, just little grey squares. When I use postimage it just seems to convert to a jpg. I want it so that people can click on my image and see the animation.

I'll answer my own question. After playing around I have found that Cubeupload works well. And it allows me to put a full size animation in the thread, no need to click. Can I confirm with admin/mods that this is OK & not taking up any unnecessary space on the forum?

Bayla,
My understanding is that as long as your image is added via a link it doesn't affect forum space. However, I may be missing something; one of the administrators might be better able to advise you.

Bayla,
If postimage.org is converting your animated GIFs to JPEGs, this seems to indicate they have a size limit for this kind of images. How large was your animated GIF file? I tried one of my files (500 x 312, 72.4 KB). It works.

UPDATE:
I contacted postimage.org about their size limitations for animated GIF files. Let's see what they say.

I tried one of my files (500 x 312, 72.4 KB). It works. My GIFs are larger than yours (though still well within the file size limit of 8mb) so I made a test GIF that was more or less the same size as yours but when I uploaded it using postimage.org then it still uploaded as a jpg. Maybe it's something I'm doing wrong in the uploading process? Bayla

Helen, I have no problem with Cubeupload (see my second post), it's only when I try uploading a GIF file from my pc via postimage.org that I run into problems! My files are in the region of 200-300kb, but even when I tried one at the same size as Sepiana's it still wouldn't work I'm certain it is user error & that I am doing something wrong in the uploading process! Here's a test... I didn't see anything special about uploading a gif file.

OK, I thought I'd cracked it. I thought it had to do with the size you choose from the postimage.org dialog box. I was selecting 640x480 which I find is just right for posting images that are big enough to see but don't overwhelm a thread. But choosing this option results in a GIF being changed to a jpg. I managed to do a test post choosing 'Do not resize my image' & it remained a GIF. Eureka! I thought......but I just tried to replicate it & once again it's changing my GIFs to jpgs!!
